Nice report, you recovered a lot of my old stomping grounds. I agree a lot of roads that riders rave about are to me just ok. First time I rode Lolo Pass I was expecting a lot but came away meh, ok but not great. I have better rides starting just outside my garage. The Norton national rally was here this past week and partially for that reason.

I have the exact same bike. I have absolutely no trouble finding neutral. On mine shifting gears takes a more gentle touch than any other bike I have owned. I adjust my clutch to have a very small amount of free play before releasing the clutch. The new Mandellos have hydraulic clutches which are set up this way as they should be. Riders have complained about them, they shouldn't as this is the way they should be. Set up this way makes for much smoother shifting instead of having the pull the lever in a fair amount you just have to preload the shift lever and tickle the lever and the shift will be smooth and silent. I learned to do this many years ago on old Airheads which were notorious for clunky shifts.

So are the dimensions I quoted in the ballpark?
Well I don’t know, but this is all you need.
The outside diameter of the spacer has to be a loose fit in the bore that holds the seal.
The inside diameter has to slide easily over the pivot pin.
The length of the spacer has to be about 20 thou’ less than the space that exists between the race and the seal.
I can’t remember how I got the dimension for the length of the spacer, but it does not have to be a precision amount.
My memory of it leads me to think you’re on the money.

That there is the essential American motorcycle. Even today's Harleys don't look like that anymore.  So simple and so right.

The top-line of the bike from the tip of the rear fender to the tip of the front fender is what every company attempted to imitate from the time these first came out until the cruiser period faded and we are back to standards and adv.s ruling the roads.
My first bike was an 81 Kawasaki 250 CSR.  It looked like a 4/5 size version of your bike excepting the engine of course.  But the lines and proportions were nearly a dead ringer.  The metrics were popular in that style for the next 25-30 years.

Thanks for the memory Mr. S.
