I had my first heart surgery in 2001 at 58 ...... 6 bypasses.  Got thru that just fine.  Did avoid work (my job)  for 6-8 weeks, but returned for over 4 years before retiring at 62.

2016 - after having my cardio doc monitor heart for several years, the time came to have the aortic valve replaced.  At age 73.  That worked fine, aside from going septic, and almost kicking the bucket from that.  Surgery was great ...... aortic valve working fine at the moment.  Gotta watch out for that nasty staph, however!

The good news from 2nd surgery was ........ out of the 6 bypasses that had been done 15 years prior, 5 were still in good shape.  The 6th was repaired with a vein graft.  Now slightly past 20 years on the initial bypasses.  All good!

Tomorrow 10/1 will be one week since the big cut.  I should be out of the hospital tomorrow!  I had an extra complication from my guts taking extra time to wake up from the anesthesia and morphine- Ileus.   That's now behind me in more ways than one.

I am thinking about writing a Guzzi book about riding after bypass but I vaguely remember that's been done before 😀

Very glad to hear you were smart and did the right thing.  Too many men just say aw its nothing and push through it.  Then they become nothing.  My father had the bypass and did very well, and you are in better shape than he, so you should superstar this gig. Working on motorcycles is a therapeutic way to recover from surgery.  Wouldn't a nice 72 Eldo restore be just the ticket?? I happen to know a guy...      In all seriousness, keep on doing what you're doing.  You're rocking this recovery.
If you wish to know what a man is, place in him authority.

I had that problem, and they sent me home. Ate dinner. Not good. Called the hospital and some bozo told me to take miralax in a glass of water. MD= "Me Doctor." Emergency trip to the hospital and stomach drained through my nose for a few days. A near thing..and no fun at all.
All's well that ends well, though.

Glad to still have you around. I had a WM 98% blocked at 42 yrs old in '92. Still hanging around with no problems. Nick has made a couple of really good points. Depression is normal, don't fight it, but deal with it. And be a patient patient. I cycled my way to health and flirted with the nurses. You'll feel good and be tempted to push. There's plenty of time for that when summer comes around again. A wee bit of whisky now and then doesn't hurt either. Good man for going in when the urge struck.

Glad to hear you're out of the 'health care facility!'  To me, an hour there is like a day, and a day like a week.  Sounds like you're on the road to a great recovery.  Take it easy for a while, and stay off the really bumpy roads when you first get back on two wheels.  Or take a bike with the softest suspension!

I am beginning day 3 post hospital stay.  I am staying at my daughter and son in law's place for about a week or so before transitioning home.  All is well and going better than plan.

All the medical staff I have interfaced with have said I am a star pupil which is good to hear.   I have been reading Nick's "Beyond the Bypass" which is excellent.   Our experience to this point is very similar.  Unlike Nick, I won't be taking a spin on my bike at 3 weeks post op!     The impending inclement riding season will help remove that temptation.

My son, daughter and I are still blown away that this happened.  And sometimes it still feels unbelievable.  We are still shaking our heads at just how fast things can change.

My dad had quintuple bypass when he was 53, his brother had triple bypass at 51 and my brother had quadruple at 48.  I guess I'm next in line!
I just turned 49 yrs old; and I sure hope I can avoid it.  Those 3 really never kept up on their health.  I've been on blood pressure & cholesterol medicine for years now and always monitor my blood pressure.
I watch what I eat, walk every morning, lift weights 5 days a week and quit drinking alcohol 14 months ago.  I'm what appears to be a healthy man....hopefully it's working but the genetic predisposition I can do nothing about.

I made a stop of a almost a week in between the hospital and home at my daughter and son in law's place.  A perfect place to spend the transition.  I am now home.  I went to the garage and started the new V7 just because.

Other than the constant reminder that my sternum was sawed in half not long ago I feel remarkably normal.   I was lucky to be discharged from the hospital not needing Coumadin which makes this part of post recovery much simpler.
