Motorcycle wrecking yards in SoCal
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:07:32 AM »
I'm starting a new project, a street scrambler based on a V65SP.  I'm currently in Palm Springs and want to visit some m/c wrecking yards, with a primary interest in front forks, brake calipers, masters, and possibly gas tanks.

Google maps tells me there are several around here, with 3 in the San Bernardino area, but using Street View, they look so so.

Might some of our SoCal friends recommend a place or two?

Ciao,
Dick

There is one in Stanton not too big but I have found some useful parts in the past.

Tri-County Motorcycle Salvage in Ventura.  Lots of parts.  Won't look impressive in Google Street View, but has lots of stuff.

We used to have one in Indy down in the hood  that wouldn't have looked impressive in Street view at all. You name it, they had it if it was Japanese.

I use Johnson and Wood on Lankershim in No. Hollywood. I wouldn't describe them as a wrecking yard, but they have many old bikes and a heap of parts.

Thank you to those who took the time to respond.

The few yards I'm familiar with in the Seattle / Tacoma area have disassembled the bikes and sorted the parts by type,  forks in one room, fenders in another.

The two yards I viewed in street view in the San Bernadino area appeared as if they had about 20 bikes in a cyclone fenced area, partially disassembled, and rotting in the sun.

I'm looking for a yard that has taken the parts in out of the weather,.  I'd have thought SoCal would be a m/c wreckers paradise.

Might I be mistaken?

Tri-County Motorcycle Salvage in Ventura is all inside and bikes are parted out.
