Hi, I’m making up brackets to mount original guzzi panniers from a v7 classic, I’ll do a test before doing many miles but want to see what the consensus is, will these fry or catch fire...? I was thinking I could get some heat shields for the bottom as a possible option... thoughts..

The closest distance between my Givi E22s and the exhaust on my V7III is about 1.75 in. That's toward the very end of the silencer where the cone reverses.

Malik suggested to me attaching silicon baking sheets to the underside. Cheap on ebay. Not sure how you'd attach them as glue would probably melt. Rivets or bolts maybe? Whaddya reckon Mal?

Since you are making your own brackets, take a lesson from India. They have a horizontal support under the bag that makes sure it doesn't sag and become too close to the pipe.

You could integrate a heat shield on that to support and protect the bag.

Was thinking of this stuff...

From your photo, it looks like plenty of room. Just don't pack your butter at the bottom of the bag.
Silicone baking trays? Not required for leather, but an idea for the plastics & fabrics, Cut to size, affix with high quality self adhesive Velcro. You could sew them on, but that's awkward, and if not done well, compromises the waterproofing.

I made stays out of aluminum tubing, attached to the luggage rack, to keep luggage from rubbing against the rear wheel. Perhaps something like that would work for you.

The ones on a stock California Vintage are even cruder. At least your ones should stay in one place.

Haven't had a problem with my bags getting hot but they're much smaller. I believe the converter is just aft of the foot pegs so the back of the mufflers should be a little cooler. Suppose a little heat reflective material on the bottom wouldn't hurt.

Oops - just noticed you have aftermarket mufflers so no converter...

Just need a couple of inches clearance and you don't want any sagging from overloading!
Heres my Cravens on my Classic with 1 1/4" clearance from my Mistrals - no problems. (old pic - have Craven lids off getting repainted pearl white now - dam deer!)

success! I didn’t put any butter/children/dogs in the pannier
but tested then with my hands and they’re fine...
I was concerned because the pipes only come to about 1/2 way along the pannier, but all good.
Pleased as I bought these second hand for a classic
and they are great quality. Note sneaky bracket behind the
airbox to for the front mount. Sure I had to put a small unobtrusive home in the side panels
but hey...
