When I was going to Orange Coast Jr. College in the mid `60s I had my Volvo P-1800, Dan Gurney had his Mini Cooper Woody, and another student had his little 2 door Glas hard top sport coupe.  I don't know what country it was made in but it was a real looker.

Was the Glas this one? http://www.goggomobil.com/Galerie/Coupe/coupe.html
The Glas brand was from lower Bavaria here in Germany likewise Audi and BMW. Apart from the really tiny Goggomobil - series (from which my mother once had the "limousine") there were indeed bigger, but still small other cars.

I for several years had the Simca 1200 S Coupe (french car, italian styling by Bertone). It combined fun, rust and frustation...

My sister bought one of those cars new in the early 60's when she worked for Fiat corporation. I was about 14 years old and remember it as totally gutless just barely able to keep up with suburban NJ traffic. Our neighbors oval rear window Beetle was like a super car compared to the Fiat....

Can you say "Death Trap"?

These little cars are very useful in Europe's crowded and narrow streets. They are mear pingpong balls for the average U.S auto.

The Citroen is a cool little machine.

Now to the important stuff ....... so that's the finished trike?  That looks really nice!  Utilitarian and stylish at the same time.  Congratulations on the build.

Seeing the 2cv in your pics reminded me of a neat encounter we experienced on our Bonneville ride in 2006.  Near the 4 Corners area, we came across a gaggle of Brits driving rather stylish 3-wheel cars, powered by the front-drive 2cv powertrain.  The brand was 'Lomax.'  There were 3-4 of these three wheelers in their party.  Nice group, discovering our South West from these little machines.

One of several Lomax we encountered at a gas stop near Monument Valley

Yes, that's the 3VL TWIN parked at the building supply.  I put 5 cu/ft of bagged dirt in the back for the trip home.  The guy helping me load it commented that it was undoubtedly the most dirt he'd packed onto a motorcycle all day.  So it's got some utility to it.  Style? dunno.  I've never been accused of having any before.

I remember those Saabs. However, I was a Volvo guy. I had a little 122S. I'll have to look up those 2 strokes. You NEVER see them anymore.

I had a Volvo mechanically similar to yours ..... a 1958 PV444.  Loved that car!  Taught me a lot about balancing carbs ..... when the twin SUs got out of balance, you were in danger of getting flogged by the long gearshift.  I exaggerate, but I think your 122 had the same long shifter and the soft rubber motor mounts as the PV models.  A buddy bought a later 144, which I personally didn't think held a candle to the PV444/544 or 122 series.  But what counted was ..... he liked it.

What a cool group of little ones.  My little one is much more prosaic, an '09 Suzuki SX4.  Econobox you say?  Soul-less you say?  Well yes.  But it is a manual 5sp with a rocker switch for 2wd, AWD and locking diff 4wd, _and_ it makes a great sound as it races to 60mph in 11 secs.  It will be a parts problem soon too since Suzuki Auto left these fine shores a recession back.)  Back to the discussion of the cool little cars...

Owned one of these back in the early '80s:

Mine was blue like the one in the foreground. Bought it at a local salvage yard for $400 including all of the parts I wanted from another one there. Engine needed the carb cleaned, a timing chain and tensioners, fan belt idler pulley bearings and a good tune-up. Body had some rust holes above the front wheels, so I welded in new panels. A set of 4 new Pirelli P3 tires cost a whopping $92 shipped.

I commuted to work (100 miles a day) in it for a few weeks. Surprisingly peppy on flat ground, slow climbing hills, even more so when my 220 lb. car-pool buddy was riding with me.  50 mpg. Sold it for $600 and bought a '56 VW Beetle.

Not really small by 1967 standards, but compared to current cars it is very small, even a mini or a suzuki swift is a lot bigger!

Back in the day those used to beat 911's in the under 2L sedan racing.  Yep, 911's were classed as sedans as they had a rear seat.  I had a 71 Spider.  Fun little car but rust prone and had a horrible 2nd gear.  Mechanical fuel injection was temptermental too.

Always wanted a Suzuki Wizzkid!

As for the Audi posted above where they any good? It's like Audi can do no wrong these days and like they always made good cars but they were quite hit and miss years gone by. First they produced 3 cylinder 2 strokes with the catch line 3x2=6 like it was as good as a six as pictured above. A few years later they produced the brilliant Audi 50 only for VW parent to steal the baby and brand it as a polo. Audi then whent back to not making six cylinder engines again making 5 cyclinders and trying to convince the world 5 was better than 6. Finally found their feet with the Quatro and 4 wheel drive I I early eighties and never looked back since.
