Absolutely.  I stopped in a Gander Mountain, and in the parking lot, some Mensa guy had a bunch of 8 foot 2X4s he was taking home via sticking them out both sides of his back seat windows.

I do lament a little bit, the days when crazy things added a contrast to the mono tone beige world that our kids are inheriting.

Not to take anything away from the hilarity, but if you look, there's empty space in front of him in the turn lane.  I'm thinking he had a chain reaction blowout right there and is just propping up the trailer while he gets the tires changed.

Pfffft. That's an everyday occurrence in Indiana..

*We do this all the time running boats up on the beach, propping up one side with beams or short logs and waiting for the tide to ebb so's we can work on the bottom.  It's called "careening".  Guzzi content:  It can work for motorcycles, too, should you need that kind of access.

I've never seen it applied to a truck before though, and that welder's got about 100' of extension cord laid across the street and all** . . . . well . . . .  he*** appears to be welding on or near the gas tank -- overhead exhaust, maybe?  Not to worry though, based on my boat experience that's not enough angle for a spill, if your fuel and fluid levels are low enough.  Besides, he's using a welding mask, which shows he's safety conscious.  If you look closely, you can see that it's a brick.  Good choice.  Like a regular welding mask bricks are hard to see through, and placing a hand-held brick between your face and a sudden, violent force is a well known safety measure.   :thumb:

*If you can't see the pic, it's the one of the truck heeled over at the curb.

**He should coil the excess extension cord back onto the spool to make it shorter, right?

***The funny part is that from the photo angle, the weld guy looks like our very own MMnorth.  That you, Matt?   :boozing:

then why would he throw the tire onto the back of the trailer? I think he's just trying to make it back home, hope it was nearby.

One tire blew -- the one in the back of the trailer.  The other one couldn't keep up with the load and also blew a little later in the trip.  They've got the second one at the tire shop when this pic was taken and they're hoping it will hold up until they can get the first one there too.

I spotted a car up in Auckland this week, some strange make I didn’t recognize . I walked over and looked at the registration sticker. TRAILER home built it reads, I’m sure that will fool the police

Our rego labels have the vehicle make, year and plate number printed on them.

People who can't understand using a dolly to support the trailer are the same people you do not want with you if your ship is stuck in the ice near Antarctica...

The wheel in the back of the trailer looks like it still has the hub attached. Maybe the bearings seized and the axle twisted off?

If I remember correctly, Burt Munroe once used a tree stump for a trailer wheel.
Sometimes you gotta think outside the box.
I once made an emergency repair  by welding without a mask.
I held a sheet of wood in front of my face and struck the arc.  I laid in a short bead by feel.
I stopped stopped and chipped and did it again.  In this way I was able to get a repair done.
This won't work with tig and would be very difficult with a mig.

You can't fix stupid.

When my father and I would see some of the above, mattress on the roof @ 65 mph, or a Mickey Mouse pool same location, he would say, "They'll make it home because they don't know any better, now if you or I tried that, well....."

The ladder one is kinda scary though.....

Then why remove the remaining one ?

Because the trailer was overloaded and the tires were crap.  Once the first one blew they tried to finish the trip on the other one, but further on it also failed.

You mean this guy?

If Satan is a lawyer, this guy had best hope he's going to hell, 'cos he's going to need one if and when he gets there...
Also, I think there might be a wheel on the other end of that one up in the trailer in the other shot.
There's a smudgy image of something round and white against the front wall. Is it a complete axle with a wheel on both ends in there ?

Not sure if the photo is going to post, but the car with the ladder through the back window is on I-95 in Warwick, RI.
