Tool Question
« on: January 07, 2017, 07:56:46 PM »
Gonna change the inner plugs on the '08 Norge before Not-A-Rally season starts.

I have this old link for a thinwall socket which I *think* I saved for just this purpose:

https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0239

Is this the correct size tool I need?

Thanks, and have a cold one for your troubles!

I have this one for the inner plugs on my Calvin. $7.35 shipped

It is a little cheaper at SummitRacing but with shipping it is more expensive.

In a pinch you can take a grinder to your 5/8 deep socket and shave down the about half the length of the socket to fit in....  it's a tool you will likely use once during the life of the bike.

Strange - I've used mine three times as of yesterday. Of course, I change those plugs once they have at least 30,000 miles and I have the airbox off for any other reason. Current mileage on the Norge is 121,000.

One thing to remember is that since these plugs don't get changed often they can be sticky, both coming out and when putting new ones in. Not only that, but the frame and the angle of insertion complicate the matter. Be very careful not to cross-thread, as you are likely not going to be able to hand-thread them after the first few turns and will have to depend on a gentle wrench.

I used that Motion Pro for my Breva 1100.  Blast the plug hole with compressed air first.  It's bloody deep and can attract rubbish.  I found the hardest bit was removing the plug lead from the RH plug.  Had to fight with the tubular frame rail to get my fingers in.  Ended up breaking the plug cap and had to buy a new one.  They're angled about 120 degrees but I heard later that a 90 degree will fit, too.

You might try a short length of rubber hose on the plug to
Let you finger tighten it too.
