Sunny today in Asheville NC. Beautiful.

The contrast was amazing.   No sunshine since last Wednesday, nothing but gray skies, wind, and half a foot of rain.

But in 10 minutes today, the sky turned cloudless blue with a gentle breeze, 70 degrees, perfect.

I'm off!

It's wet and soggy.   And there's 85 more dead people on the highways than there were yesterday .....

OK , and I ask this in a polite tone , how does that have even the remotest bearing on this topic ?

It's related to the perceived threats from disasters of various kinds vs. actual threats.

And (he also said in a polite tone) it doesn't seem as if your attempts to control thread content by asking and nagging are working very well.   Perhaps you could try another method?    Rather than attempt to explicitly control what people write, maybe you could just ignore comments that you don't like?    I really think they'll die out and go away faster that way.

I know it's difficult, though.

I suppose it was never really an option, anyway.

I thought this was a thread about the flooding on the east coast. Can you all please stay on topic? Or start a thread about how dangerous it is to live in these times, so I can ignore it.

Thanks for your consideration.

We live in the Old Sand Hills region of Columbia, just off Covenant Road and bordering with Forest Acres. High and dry with no running water. The pool has enough for a long while and we do not use chemicals, only a copper/silver ion filtration. My "office" though, is whacked. I have two surplus shipping containers full of MSF bikes and associated things. They were 50 yards or so from the normal banks of Gill's Creek. One was completely submerged under 20 feet and the other floated farther up the parking lot, listing to port against a brick wall adjacent to Rosewood Dr. Yesterday I returned to the site but could not get to the closest container with the other one still half submerged. I'll try again today. Pics to follow.

Glad your house is ok.

Daughter and her friends live in Forest Hills area as well, but, their places are on high ground too.  Don't know if they have running water since they are on a cruise ship in the Bahamas right now.  They left early Sat morning.

rr, I think you live really close to daughter.  They are on Boyer Dr.

Well I got an update from my sister.  About 6 months ago my parents moved on into a really nice senior living apartment but getting rid of the house and Dad's shop would have been too much for him.  So my sister sold her house and after some renovations including new floors for the basement she moved in.  Most of her personal belongings were still in boxes in the basement.

Ouch.   The water didn't stay long but it took all of the new flooring and ruined most of her pictures.  A big thank you from mother nature for doing your folks a solid.

All good here but my folks are in Columbia and that's one of the worst places.  There's a dam on Gill's Creek that broke and a lot of the flooding pictures you see are from below there.  If you did time at Fort Jackson then you might remember La Brasca's Pizza and Gill's Creek runs right by there.

Screamday is in West Columbia but should be pretty dry.

Ya......we're pretty good here. It pays to live at the top of the hill above the rivers. You know the old saying....Sh$t flows downhill.....and there is plenty of that happening right now. If the Lake Murray Dam were to fail.....which there is no indication of that happening, there would be no place to hide.
