Can't wait to see the Monza!

Congrats,

Joe

I was a day off when I posted this.  I honestly thought yesterday was today. That's what I get for eat, nap, rest, drink, nap, eat, sleep, etc.
At any rate, Nora called, and said they expect to get the bike about 2:00, ETA here around midnight.
Just more anticipation.

Looks as if it's a done deal.  The Kid just sent me some pix and said he'd just pay me my $250 down payment and keep it for himself, so he must like it.

Remember Chuck,  these are for riding, not bench pressing, especially in your ummm delicate condition.  No heavy lifting, let the younguns do the lifting.  Looks like a great deal and bike.  I do have room next to your Centy for the Laero.

Love the flow between the tank, sidecovers, seat, and rear cowl. Very cool looking bike!

Plus is has the better (IMHO) clean dash like the original 850 LeMans.

Congrats again.

Good eye, Joe.  I think it's one of Guzzi's "prettiest" designs of that era.
Just talked to Brad, and he said, "You don't want to take it to California, it's too damn nice. (!) The pix he posted on Ebay didn't do it justice. New Progressive front springs and rear shocks. Not a drop of oil anywhere, all the electrical system works, switch gear is in nice shape. It's been maintained by a Guzzi guy and has had a lot of love. Nothing mechanically wrong with it. I'd have bought it in a heartbeat."
He did say that obviously, the paint is 34 years old, but all the panels, etc. are sound, and nothing is missing.
Well. I guess sometimes you *do* get the bear.

Chuck - It's Carey, close enough  :boozing:. You don't want to know how many ways my name has been misspelled and disordered...  We probably met at the 2008 Malibu rally, I was on the blue V50 as the Monza was out of commission for something at that time. Maybe the gearbox. Could also have been one of the Visalia NARs. Yours looks better than mine! Tank and seat/tail lines are lovely. But the square fairing makes the bike look bigger. If I didn't have the only fairing I've seen with no paint bubbling (yet, looks like there's a spot starting) I'd be tempted to replace it and the rectangular headlight with a round light and LM I bikini fairing. Fairing off, it looks like a 250.

BTW, there's a Hella plug & play rectangular halogen H4 light to replace the original sealed beam. That and relays and I can see at night.

Let me know when the next cold day in Hell is, because that's the day Chuck changes out the original fairing for a lemans type w/round headlight.

It was the Malibu nationals. You were wearing a bicycle cap.. Campagnolo?  Thanks for the headlight info.

Uhh, it's snowing pretty hard as we speak, Kev.. but.. you're right.  I'm an antiquer. This one might be worthy of a restoration, according to the Kid. Of course, if it goes to California that'll never happen. Maybe he can do it and the Mighty Scura some day in the distant future.

That one doesn't look like it needs *any* restoration at all. Just a good check of all that needs to be checked and plenty of exercise. There's not even any oil on the outside (hope there's some inside!) and it has Ed's head guards.

Malibu then. Can't remember the hat, could be the old red Campy reserved for Italian events. Bike caps are perfect - fold/roll up small, keep sun out of eyes, and protect balding heads. And cheap!  Need Guzzi one!

It's got a fork brace and looks like fork gaiters so the previous owner had a good grasp on what it needed, you got a good one, Chuck . Should make you heal faster!

Ok, first things to go. Although the bag mounts were nicely done *and the bike wasn't butchered to put them on* the bags are Givi, and nice.. I have a bagger.
Sorry, Ed, but I hate those head guards. Fortunately, they probably weigh 2 lbs, and the aluminum recycler will give me a rebate on the price of the bike..

I'll guarantee you that "I" don't need them. Besides being gorilla cookie ugly..sorry Ed.. They're a half inch thick. I personally feel they are entirely too strong, and could likely cause damage.. I like head guards to be sacrificial.

Ride report from Brad:
Front end and rear end feel tight and controlled. Brakes are killer. Transmission shifts smoothly, and is *quiet.* Engine runs beautifully, and it'll easily bury the speedo. Riding position is great for guys our size. No rattles, clanks, nothing. It's like a new motorcycle, just ride it.
<sigh>  Maybe another month.
Oh, apparently it *is* a one owner except the guy we bought it from. It was first titled in 83, and apparently, no intervening owners.

Anyway, they are ugly.

Certainly over 3/8", but I didn't measure them. Just eyeballing I'd say .400/.425. Entirely too thick, as far as I'm concerned. They've gone missing..
