Do you ever come across the 650 or 750 NTX for sale in the US?
I'd much rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

They were never officially imported and I've never seen any for sale. I know of at least one that was privately imported, but that's it.

There was one for sale in California a couple of years ago.  It looked like it needed everything and was priced as if it was  made of solid gold.

There was one for sale in the UK a few months ago and I thought about buying it but when import duties, shipping and the purchase price added up to more than I thought was reasonable I backed off.

I'm better off (I think) waiting until MG releases a new midweight NTX (not holding breath) or perhaps starting with a 2015/16 V7II Scrambler and replacing things I don't like with those I do. At least that way parts are readily available.  Maybe KTM will beat MG to the market with a 650/850 ADV bike.

I want a twin with a lower seat and bigger gas tank than the 690 Enduro R.

That's interesting.  The 690 KTM is too much a dirtbike. A mid-weight twin that can cover long distance and do dirt would be a good option.

also under wraps.. EBR working on a new ADV (the AX).. some speculate a thumper.. and Erik has India connections as well.. it's all hush hush for now but I don't think it will have the same race motor the other EBR bikes use or it would be out by now.

That sounds like a F700GS or a Ducati Scrambler with some minor mods.

The F700GS is a nice bike and I've considered it but I'd rather have a Guzzi or KTM or Tiger 800XC before a BMW. I saw the Ducati Scrambler last November and it looked really cheap and plastic. Someone on the ADV Rider board replied to that comment saying the Ducati people at the show he attended said many parts on those show bikes were handmade wood and plastic painted for the show bikes. He advised me to reserve judgment regarding the Ducati Scrambler and to look at a production bike before I discount it based on my first impression...... interesting. I still shy from a Ducati Scrambler thinking "high maintenance" but maybe I'm wrong.
