Product Review:Solo Stove
« on: May 06, 2021, 09:36:06 PM »
Well I’ll be..

I gave into advertising a bought the smallest one. Stainless steel...double walled...9 oz...size of a mug of coffee...

For super lightweight backpackers, you could hike the whole Appalachian Trail using this, discarding the white gas containers and weight.

For hanging w friends it’s even better..my sweetheart demonstrates guerrilla campfire technique ...handful of twigs..finger thick..boom....”blow up your tv...”

About 5” diameter, fits inside a coffee can. About the same tall

I got the smallest. 9oz ..304 stainless steel. They make $400 backyard versions!!

Definitely on my list of apocalypse necessities

I believe the Brits used something like this in Ww2...it has a double wall and vents in the bottom..a top portion flips to make a support for a pot of water... the trick here is to not necessarily cook on it but a quick boil of water to reconstitute freeze dried backpacking foods

Theoretically you could replace a white gas or butane stove. Also has an accessory piece to burn alcohol

Awesome as a mini bonfire 🔥

I don't camp but like stoves of all manner. Alcohol penny stoves made out of aluminum cans work great. One or so ounces of alcohol I can cook eggs in a cast iron skillet with fuel to spare. I also have a MSR Whisperlite white gas stove. It works great and is very strong for its weight. I've cooked a pot of chili on it in a 4 quart cast iron ditch oven. Lately for about he last year I've gravitated to Coleman white gas camp stoves. They are great especially for deep frying. 4 or 6 quart cast iron Dutch oven, oil of choice and all the mess and smell of frying is outside. Stove has no problem getting several quarts of oil to 375/400 degrees. Also works great for Wok cooking. For the last 10 or 15 year I've done most of the cooking and most of my cooking is done outside or in the garage no matter the season or weather.
