Should I Buy "Bargain" Tiddler
« on: May 19, 2021, 12:12:56 PM »
I found this Honda CL 350 Scrambler they're asking $1500. Starts easy and runs but cuts out on road. It is 70 mile drive to look. Should I take a chance???

Definitely worth a look at that price. It looks complete and in very nice shape.

I thought tiddlers were very small bikes, less than say, 100CC?

According to the Texas Tiddlers, Tiddler Endurance Run class 4 class is 305cc, so It does sound like a 350 is too big to be a Tiddler. Good question on what is definition of "tiddler".

A throughly mad British fella that lived around here rode an MB5 for a twenty mile commute over secondary roads for some time. I think he had about 50,000 miles out before it was over. Not DUI related if that means anything to anyone. Nice guy also rode Guzzis for years.

The MB5 is going for big $ now, lots of us had one when young. Not me I'm to old, I got my dads Cushman.
I have a Kinetic moped needs carb cleaned, 200mi like new. I bumped it up and put on a DelOrto, a real one. It's a Indian copy of a Piaggio Ciao(Vespa). They kept making them, for hop-up you go for Ciao parts, it all works.

That is a great buy. Do it, one of the best bikes Honda ever built IMHO.

My first new bike was a 1973 Blue/white Honda CL350. One of the difference between the CB and CL, is the latter has a higher gearing. Wheelies are an option. Wish I still had mine.
This looks like a seriously low price. Try finding those scrambler mufflers, you’ll pay a pretty penny.

If you are into the CL350 then buy it!
I prefer the 68/69 CL for the cam, but the later models are great too. If I had one now it would be my daily rider. Instal some mikuni carbs and ride it. I had a CB rear sprocket on mine for slightly lower rpm and vibes at hiway speeds. Not at all modern, but serious fun.

Well it was advertised for 5 hours before somebody got there faster than me and its gone. I could have had it if I had not hesitated and had immediately hit the road to see it.
I also found out the pipes were patched up and on their last leg.
Thats ok, I didn't need another bike... I had a 73 CL360 and sold it 'rideable' for $800 in 2015. Really pretty close to a perfect bike, if it wasn't for the drum brakes and all the other big vehicles you have to run away from.

Technically, a Honda CL350 is NOT a tiddler....

Usually a "TIDDLER" is a motorcycle 100cc or smaller.  Correct me if I am wrong....

Tiddler to me means clutch, gears, small-ish motor. As the age gets higher, more leeway allowed on the size of the motor. Some specific “landmark”, or first year models can slip in this set. Generally 250 or below, or a Moto giro rider. The more obscure the manufacturer the more leeway

The mentioned honda seems to fit there. It wouldn’t be shooed away for a group toddler ride..but it barely makes it. A little big..a little common, but a landmark for sure

Mopeds. Motor/pedals. Got to have pedals.

Scooters-no pedals

I want them all..if it has 2 wheels

That is a very nice looking Honda Scrambler, the pipes are beautiful and the price seems very fair if its a smooth runner.

You won't loose money should you decide to sell it.

Welcome to the internet/- age.  If it is a bargain, I've noticed that a lot of them are gone within a couple hours, sometimes less than a hour.  I suspect post - prices will be lower and a lot of used bikes will hit the market when other activities start back up.
