fin-design dipstick tool
« on: July 03, 2015, 06:22:19 AM »
Saw an ad here on wild (http://fin-design.com/), and thought, what the heck I'll give Luap a click-through. So I clicked it. Turns out to be an Australian tool that goes on your key ring and allows you to remove your guzzi dip stick. Sounds like a neat idea. From the pictures (and I admit I didn't cruise the whole web site), it looks like it was designed around the dip stick for a convert ATF tank and not the 22mm hex of a standard big block Guzzi crankcase dip stick. They claim it fits a number of small blocks, ok. I do have to wonder how big the market is for such a device? I wish them well. I appreciate it when folks go out on a limb and invest their own money to make an aftermarket product.

Actually that looks great. If it fits the smallblock (looks like it would), I'd take one for sure.

I always try to make sure the smallblock dipstick is extra snug since so many have lost theirs.

Come to think of it, I replaced the dipsticks on both my big blocks, but for a different reason, they were snug, just hard to read. A member here machined new ones that were relative works of art. I'd actually buy something like that for the smallblock in a heartbeat too.

Anyway, thanks for posting.

From the website:

Will it fit my bike?
Fits Moto Guzzi oil load plug part number GU27004985.
Nevada 750 1998-2009, Brevia 2003-2007, V7 Classic, V35, V7 Racer, Strada 750, V65 Florida and many other models. If your dip stick (oil load plug) looks like the one in the photo it should fit. Other versions coming soon, please inquire.

Yup, it's a convenient little tool. I was sent one and gave it to a customer. It works well. Given the predeliction of smallblock dipsticks to loosen unless you crank them down a bit it's pretty handy. Yes, it's designed for the smallblock dipsticks.

OK, I was literally about to order this, but figured I'd check part numbers on Harpers.

The Breva 750 and all the 2TB V7 variants they list show an oil dipstick part # of 27004985.

As does the "2012" 1TB V7 Racer (27004985).

But the 2012-13 Special/Stone 1TB variant show an oil dipstick part # of 882836.

Does anyone know what they changed?

I can't imagine the knob is really a different size or pattern? It certainly LOOKS the same.

Pete, did you try it on one of the newer 1TB bikes?

Yah. V7-II but all the dipsticks since time immemorial have had the same cap shape. The only thing I can think of that has changed is the crosshatch patern and line on the stick.

I'll just continue to use my portable calibrated metric channel-lock type pliers, which has other uses as well.  Now, if the other end of it were a beer opener, then maybe I'd buy one.

That is awesome. Made on a 3d printer, so no mold to pay for, very clever.
