Mufflers for a '80 1000 SP with bags
« on: May 07, 2024, 08:15:06 AM »
Hello all,

I am reviving my beloved 1000 sp '80. I've owned the thing since 2000 and have ridden it cross country 4 times! It is a beloved motorcycle for me, and am getting it up and running again and the first upgrade necessary, due to rust, is the muffler.

It has a crossover currently, and saddle bags, so the mufflers need to be flat....
I like a full robust sound which is not hard on the ears but pleasant...

what is the current state of recommendations for my 1000 sp????

Thanks!
Richard

You might find that the late model 98-04 California mufflers will fit. They will definitely work with the mid length swing arm and longer. Fit the mounts and everything. I have them on my Mille GT .

the stainless Mistrals would be high on my list...the quality is very high and you can run with or without the DB killers.
I fitted short Bellagio reverse cones onto my T3 hybrid and they work really nicely

If you are on a budget, Emgo makes a number of aftermarket mufflers like a "Dunstall replica". I have used them on some of my Tonti bikes with good results. They are not the best out there,  as far as chrome quality, etc.but for the $$, they are not bad at all. There were a couple of members here selling nice looking, oem mufflers from a Cal Vintage. Those may work for your SP also.
