Informal 1000S Registry
« on: January 31, 2013, 07:25:36 PM »
Of the many bikes (mostly BMWs) that I've owned, the 1000S is perhaps my all time favorite even though I rarely ride it. Notwithstanding its relative scarcity, it seems like there are many 1000S owners represented on this board. I'm just curious as to how many we can dig up; I'll start.

Year:                 1993
Color:                 Black/Green
VIN:                   250056 (I think that means it is #56 of 84 produced that year.
Year purchased:   2007
Current mileage:   4255

I have owned a 1000SE (they were all red)for about seven years. Along with a Tribsa that I owned  in the early seventies my favourite bike of all time, none of the others have ever given  me the same pleasure as those two.

Tribsas were, during the sixties, less popular than the Tritons, but more so than Norbsas, Trifields, Tricatis, Norvins and so on. Mine was built (not by myself) using a Gold Star 350 frame and cycle parts, and an all-alloy T100 engine, with a twin leading shoe conversion of the 190mm front brake. When marriage and a family came along it had to go.The Triumph engine was fairly plentiful and fairly easy to tune, but its frame was considered much inferior to the race-bred Norton's, and to a lesser extent the BSA type, among others. Ready-made engine plates were available for all the 'specials' mentioned above, and more, in the days of my youth.

I met a guy about 15 years ago who had a 93 black framed 1000S and he said that his (blank) motorcycle friends made fun of him with that green frame so he had the bike taken apart and had the frame painted black.  I was :o

Some of the friends made comments about the green frame but never negative.  'cuz if they did, they knew what would be coming their way.   :P  "Put up or shut the F..... up!"   "Buy a bike for me then you can tell me what to do."  Of course no one has the guts to take me up on it.   ;D ;D ;D

i havent visited this site in awhile and hope it is still read enough to get a decent list of 100S owners.I always liked LM1's and have amassed 3 of them but before I bought my first one and had it shippped from Switzerland,I noticed a 100S in the window at Lindners BMW in New Canann Ct,Didnt know exactly what it was as this was close to 20 years ago but I fugured its pretty close to a LeMans so I bought it.Purchased another one 4-5 years later so I have two big valve green/black 1000S's making 5 Guzzis in all.

Havent got the vins handy but will post them soon and pix if I can figure out how.Im fairly mechanical but posting pix on this site is a lesson in frustration.Any tips?.Im happy to post pix of all my bikes and enjoy very much seeing all pix on this site.

Hopefully there will be a comprehensive list of bikes and owners.Jordan,Norwalk Ct

Yup, '91 big valve cast wheels green frame, exactly the way I wanted it, currently up to 85.6k miles. Interesting that several offers to buy just on this thread, no offers to sell. Mine definitely not for sale. When I bought mine in Jan 99, sight unseen from a guy in Buffalo NY with 900 miles on it for $7k, there had been none for sale for quite a while-then a whole cluster-like 5 or 6-went up for sale at more or less the same time. Then that was it for quite a while after that. Very rarely any for sale these days it seems. To me the green frame was the best part (cosmetically speaking) of the whole deal, which made the black framed versions less desirable. Can't imagine why anyone would repaint green to black-or even more so, why anyone would even care what anyone else, esp a non Guzzisti thought about that.

They out there and they're for sale.  Just don't expect it to be next door, with low mileage, cherry condition and priced at $2500.

I bought mine from Curtis at Harper's.  I called for parts.  He said he had one for sale.  I told him "No."  A month later he said it was still for sale.  I said "Yes."  He gave me price that he knew would would work.  I bought 4 bikes prior.  No test ride.  Sight unseen.  Done deal.  This was over the phone.  No haggling.  I sent a deposit within one week.  The rest within a week or two.

The purchase was by phone.  No hesitation after I decided that I wanted the bike.  I got a fair price and Curtis knew that I was serious once I decided I wanted the bike.  Bikes purchased through Harper's.  V7 Sport, LM 850, LM 1000 and the 1000S.  They stayed at Harper's as the Au Collection for a couple years till I shipped them to Hawaii to join the rest of the herd.

A quick count.  I've shipped about 12 bikes from the mainland to Hawaii and within Hawaii.

If you're serious about a bike and want to purchase it.  Don't let your regional preference stop you otherwise you'll never have that bike.

Don't over haggle the price.  My LM V11 Sport was at the seller's price but he picked me up at the airport and I used his home as base for a couple of days to get use to the bike before taking off for the National bike drowning in MN.
