Title: Sleep
Post by: John A on June 21, 2021, 07:55:46 PM
To help me sleep I put a garlic segment in the pillow case.  I peel em but I don’t open it to expose the juice. It’s absolutely amazing how well it works, I’ve been doing it for a couple of weeks now and I’m sleeping better than I have in years. It worked the first night I tried it and I’m impressed. I don’t have any idea of how it works, I wish I would have known about it years ago, I’d be rich and famous by now!

Pretty effective vampire repellent also .

Now that you mention it, I’ve not had any vampires around since I started it...

Melatonin

I have some really freaky dreams on that stuff. Sometimes it’s fun, others not so much.

The wife and I used Chantix to quit smoking (It worked) But the dreams were an acid trip. Talk about taking a trip and never leaving the farm.

I kept having dreams about my Dad who passed 40 years ago.

I have read that a large fraction of people who have some Stilton cheese before bed (I don't know how long) have "vivid dreams".
I want to try this out...

So if you eat some Stilton cheese and then sleep on a garlic-loaded pillow, will you both sleep better/longer & have better dreams?

If so, you should probably dial in your liquid intake before bed so you don't have to get up & pee right in the middle of that perfect sleep & dream sequence...

Me too, very vivid.  Never bad.

If I had to smell garlic all night by 2am I'd be up fixing spagetti or a steak with fresh rolls of course.

Where's the "that stinks" emoji?
I'll stick with my lavender colored sheets.

My 68 year old brother swears by edible cannabis cookies.  After years of irregular sleep, it was a revelation. My brother has always been a very straight arrow, never too fond of "pot heads" so I was shocked when he told me. But he was convinced by a long time friend to try it.  He has one about an hour before bedtime  and in his words:  "I sleep like a baby".

Note: Cannabis is legal in Canada for both medicinal and recreational use. You can even grow a limited amount yourself in most provinces. No, we haven't gone to hell in a hand basket- yet.

I have a NY medical marijuana card. Recreational use has been signed into law but not ready to go just yet.
The medical pot dispensaries are too expensive compared to buying it from a friend who grows it.
It doesn't put me to sleep so much as it changes my train of thought.

John, where do you suppose I got the idea?  Don’t they say “ smelly wife = happy life “ or something like that?

I used to be more into physical fitness and such... 25 years ago... anyways, back then it was a trick used by bodybuilders; smoke pot and go to bed. You would sleep better and it actually raises your metabolism so you burn fat (as long as you get to sleep before the munchies kick in!)

I'll have to look up the garlic trick though. I've never heard of that and my sleep is... crap. I sleep like crap. Every night. Ugh.

What that means is you don't have the stupid "war on drugs" where hop heads do prison time. The was a REALLY dumb idea.

Nothing beats a "poor mans sedative" to put me to sleep.

I have found that remembering a day's ride in as much detail as I can is both enjoyable and a reliable way to go to sleep. I start from the time I left my garage and try to remember every single turn (including the ones coming out of my neighborhood), every sight, every wave to a neighbor or rider, every sensation and decision. I am surprised at how much detail I can recall. After a while of this enjoyable re-living of the ride I inevitably fall asleep.

Doing this prevents me thinking about all the worries about other things that interfere with sleep. It is something like "counting sheep" -- recommended to me as a kid, but never effective -- but a real pleasure.

I note that these are rides on Guzzis, so this is Guzzi content.

Works for me, just a little bit and I’m out for the entire night.
