Guzi 2015 V7 2 Stalling
« on: June 15, 2018, 08:34:53 AM »
Hi guys, i'm Daniel, new owner of a V7 2 Guzzi. I'm contacting you directly because from reading your post you seems to be Guzzi specialists :)

Let me explain my issue:

My Guzzi is running fine, only 7000km, smooth ride. BUT sometimes it's stalling when i'm at the red light or when it's idle on neutral. No problem to start it, no problem when the engine is cold. But at each red light, i'm scared that it will stop again!

The past owner told me that he recently made a computer program update... can it be the root cause??

I would like to know if this is ringing you a bell before i'm bringing my Guzzi for a checkup.

thanks!!!

Daniel

Well, welcome to WildGuzzi.  I would say yes, if the new map shut off the O2 sensors and the owner did not trim the idle mixture correctly. This could make it stall at a light. OR if a factory map update was done and the tech didn't do a reset of TPS or whatever it may do same thing.
You need to find out exactly what map and who made it. Most dealers don't do mapping unless it's stock map.

Just a thought in the interest of keeping it simple for starters.

Have you removed the gas cap when you had trouble with it? It might be possible that your tank is not venting properly and once the vacuum exceeds the ability of the fuel pump, it stalls out. If you take off the cap and you get an inrush of air, the venting system may not be working properly. The give away will be that the bike starts right back up and idles fine.

At the Km you posted, I would be very surprised if some filter was plugged, such as the fuel filter. It is possible but unlikely.

As I said, just a thought. But it only takes a moment to try and cost nothing. It could very well be as Steve suggests though. If you are able to contact the person you got the bike from, it may be worth asking more questions about the update that you mentioned.

Hmmm ok i'll try to find the information. The tech guy just told me that he recently updated the computer and flsuh some error message, i'll ask him if he is talking about mapping. thanks

Ok i just talked with the tech guy, he told me the he installed the latest mapping last year on that one and there was no new updates this year. I told him about O2 sensor and mixture trim, he answered me that plenty of bikes are running with this mapping and that's not the issue... he doens't want to do any trimming telling me that I can damage some engine components.

So now he want to look at the bike to look at spark plugs, gas filter many things.. i have the feeling that he is not sure of what to look at...

The latest update should be OK for stock bike. I thought maybe the owner put something else in or tried to modify it himself. We have a member here that does mapping, Beetle, I'd trust his maps.
It could be something like filling fuel and it got into the EVAP system. The tech may be alright, I'd take it in and see what he finds. Have him swap out the fuel filter for a metal one, that way he has to look at all the lines. It's about time for a service anyway, might even be something like tight valve adjustment.

Just replied to your PM but long and short of it is if it’s a factory map, apart from clearing the stored trims, you can’t really *adjust* them as lambda is active and will simply be seeking a target of zero in closed loop.

Check the oil level and possible oil contamination of the air filter and MAP sensor and the valve clearances and report back.

From memory the V7’s-II’s still used shitty kingerlite head gaskets which should be re-torqued at the first service. If that wasn’t done they may of collapsed enough to close up the valve clearances so incorporate that in the valve lash check as well.

To check, pull out the air filter - does it have oil on it? If so, replace it. A clogged filter can affect the idle. Look for oil at the bottom of the airbox. If there is oil there, wipe with a paper towel and as far down the manifold as you can get. The 1 throttle body V7s require less than the specified 2 litres in the engine - mine does fine on 1.9 litres.
