NGC. Shoulder surgery done.
« on: May 02, 2024, 08:36:13 PM »
Surgeon said bone spurs and complete bicep tendons tears.  He said it wasn’t good.  Oh well.  Now I’m on the mend!

Looks like some serious hardware you've got there! Heal Well and do more than the PT tells you, you'll be ridin' in no time.

Here's to a successful recovery!

I beg to differ with rinrat though. This is complex surgery and the shoulder is the most complex joint in the skeletal system. Please follow your doctor's and therapist's protocol. Try to do too much too soon and you could do serious damage.

What spmoto said. Doing no more, no less than they are told is one reason why top athletes often heal fast. Another is that they will have lots of treatments that we mortals usually cannot afford. Still, they do not force the issue. (If you need insight in what can happen if they do, check what happened to Marc Marquez after he broke his arm in 2020. Not good.)

Don't know what you all had done, get well soon and do your PT and follow orders.

My shoulder surgery took 9 months for a full recovery. Prior to surgery they said follow exactly what the doctor has ordered, because if you don't the second surgery is worse than the first. This is a painful surgery, I spent 3 months in a block sling. It has been 5 years now and it was worth the pain to get it fixed.

My surgery was on a Wednesday and the following Monday I was in doing PT. Now the therapist was doing all of the movement for me, but I had far less pain after 5 days than prior to the surgery. It just takes time.

Yep.  I've had both my shoulders done. (two years apart) PT is no fun, but gotta suffer through it to get your range of motion back.  That was all years ago and no problems since.

It may be twice a week but it is everyday at home. It is a must that you do your PT.

I’m 10 months in.  Did PT twice a week for 7 months.  I still go to the gym 3 times a week for “core” work and shoulder work with a trainer once a week. I’m at 95%. Movement is 100%

Sounds good.  How long after surgery before you could ride a motorcycle?

I rode around the block three days after my surgery (don't tell my wife!) but after the morphine perception wore off, I really wish I'd hadn't

My wife had shoulder surgery about a year ago.  She doesn't do pain well.  it took her about 6-7 weeks before she move it much.  she is much better now after therapy.  each time after therapy, she complained the therapist made it hurt. I don' t think she is a 100% but she is no longer in pain so that's good.
Now she does light barbells everyday and stretch bands for strength.  Seems to be working.

Hang in there! I've had both done. Recovery is tough. It was worth it though. Both were successful operations and no pain for a long while now. Keep a still upper lip. Here's to your recovery! (a tip of my coffee mug)

My wife had the same work done last year.  Lots of PT but she's doing great now.  You'll be back at it before you know it Bob.

Well, I’m a week post surgery.  A week of PT and this sling.  So far it’s been so so.  I’m whining a lot.  lol.  Wonder how many more weeks Il be in this sling!  When will they let me drive?  Lots of questions.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that athletes are younger, healthier, and more fit than most of us?

Well, my surgery was for bursitis, so not quite so involved.  Movement was fine as long as I didn't try to raise my arm more than chest high...beyond that strictly depended on how sadistic the PT was feeling that day  Yeowww!
