OM, OM. Am I being foolish thinking you peel the gizzards b4 the process begins? Stomach muscles have got to be the strongest in the animal kingdom. Perhaps you pre-treat, like Leutefisk? :) Liver though? Excellent! Happy Holidays, Lance, R3~
The texture of gizzards really grosses me out. I'm OK with liver. Best liver I ever had was fresh out of a deer. Cooked with onions....
With onions & eggs and fresh baked bread it was by far one of the best b'fasts I have ever had.G
I make my own dog's food. I add Gizzards & hearts to the boneless chicken breasts, fresh veggies, and barley. They love it.
I just went to the store to get Maimie some chicken thighs skyfall tube crash
In my area, NW Ct., I can find boneless, skinless, chicken breast for really good prices. Sometimes $1.49.I've been doing this for a long time. The recalls, and problems with canned dog food ain't worth it. Nothing but the best for my 3 best friends.
Lance, I didn't think I'd be salivating 'til mid January. Whooopie! We've been in the mid teens for a few days. We may have to have another, smaller, Guzzi whoop de doo when the Bresaola arrives. Please let me know what you need. R3~
Livers & Gizzards & Hearts. Oh Boy! My favorite part of Thanksgiving comes in the small bag inside the Turkey.
I just paid $1.19 for thighs with bones. we de bone and mix with some Beneful dog food, she loves it!
I've never bought chicken to feed to a dog. Do you cook it first before you mix it up and feed it?Lannis
You could precede that sentence with almost ANYTHING and it would still be true!Lannis
Kidneys are also goodJust as long as you first boil the pi$$ out of them.
Just for perspective...in Japan, they call it YAKITORI...and it is one of my favorites dishes, with a fresh draft beer. They consist of: Chicken hearts, kidneys, shoulder, butt, stomach, liver...and anything else from the chicken you can imagine! Grilled with a savory sauce...good stuff!
Are you sure it's chicken?
The Japanese don't eat dogs and cats...but they do eat horse meat....However the Chinese and the Koreans do!! In China, if it "walks, crawls, runs, swims or flies"....it goes right into the WOK!!
Horse meats is available in Canada and lots of other countries. As is Donkey.
Home made pet food also has a downside as its not a balanced diet and you can actually be doing more harm than good. Also is chicken or other meats really safer than premade pet food. Lots of recalls happening all the time on foods we consume every day.I get a kick out of "my dog love's it". My dog likes to lick her ass, eat cat poop, drink from puddles or toilet, eat dead things she finds, eat dry food. Just like 99.9% of other dogs she doesn't have the most discerning palate and will eat most anything.I understand if there are special requirements like dental or digestive issues. But if its because you have a finicky eater its most likely self created.
