I probably shouldn't ask but...
« on: May 03, 2015, 04:53:40 PM »
I headed to that gig MG is hosting in Sacramento on the 7th. I'm going to participate in their after showing focus group (using the term group lightly-maybe only me) with the MG reps. Since they are showing the MGX concept bike pretty sure it will be someone from Piaggio/MG there.

If anyone wants to pass on some wants, desires or anything like that, I'd be happy to be the messenger. I'm not the really shy type so no problem with pulling out a long list.

It might all fall on deaf ears or corporate smiling faces but you never know even if the consensus is you do know.

I am willing to print PMs sent which I could hand over if someone has a specific they need delivered otherwise I'll just take was gets posted here in replies.

Sorry but I can't deliver heavy brown paper wrapped packages not bearing a valid return address.

Let's try something simple... More support at motorcycle shows.  I don't think the big P is doing ANYTHING to promote the mark , boutique or not.  The rest you already know...

I would tell them their bikes are beautiful and absolutely wonderful to ride, but their quality control kind of sucks.

Thanks for doing this by the way.

With you and jazzamoto on that one. MG really could use something different additionally to the V7 Stone and Racer, a new Breva in maybe two different modes, naked and faired. Even an 700-850 Stelvio too.

1) more motor for the V7.  That probably means either aero heads or 4vpc heads.

2) a retro standard built on the Bellagio chassis, and with the 1200 8v engine

3) a follow up to the V11 LeMans.  A sporty sport-tourer with the 1200 8v engine.

4) larger fuel tanks for California 1400 and Griso.

Less Piaggio, more Guzzi.

Not for me, but a 750cc Son-of-Stelvio would sell like hot-cakes.

Keep building the Griso.

Let them tell you what will happen to the Bellagio platform. It disappeared from the new international webpage (which is not bad!) (the webside, not the disappearance) and from the german also. A new classic bike with this sweet engine? Sort of "V9"?

Thanks for the offer.
The best way I can answer this question is something that looks like a 1000s or Mille (which the V7 goes close to) but has at least the performance of a Triumph Bonneville and weighs in less than 200Kg and good handling at real world speeds.

I have owned a Nevada for the past 14 years that does not look or go like a Nevada any more. As the Nevada was starting to show its age I decided to update my bike. I like Guzzi's, I wanted a new Guzzi and I had the cash in my pocket.

I took delivery of a new Bonneville last week. The main reasons I did not buy a V7 were performance, options and cost. My 15 year old Nevada that I have tweaked had equal if not better performance than the V7. The performance of the Bonneville was a lot better. The Guzzi would not need the same horsepower numbers as the lighter weight and six speed closes the gap. I just want similar 0 to 100 and roll on times.

I wanted the practicality of cast wheels but they only come with bikes with flat paint (V7 Dark).
I also wanted a center stand but the dealer wanted an extra $500 Australian to supply and fit to a standard V7.
In the end a Bonneville with better pipes a solo seat, different handlebars, tachometer kit and a center stand, plus I also received the original parts came in at $300 Australian more then the dealer wanted to sell me a V7  with no options. It was not exactly what I wanted but a better option then the Guzzi in my opinion. Main dislikes with Bonneville were fuel range, chain and tappet adjustment but performance one me over.

If you can convince them to build such a bike I have one more request. Make the rear wheel easier to remove. This means have the pipes high enough to remove the axle and allow the wheel to come out without further dis-assembly.

An Australian motorcycle magazine in the 80's as part of their road tests timed a number of things. These included wheel removal, chain adjustment (NA), bulb replacement, air filter change, tappet check and spark plug change. They were relevant now and I believe are still relevant. Guzzi performs well in most of these areas but in the past the air cleaner and wheel removal has let them down. For me I own a bike and not just ride it. Please make ownership a pleasure and it may not cost anymore to produce. If you are on a roll ask them to allow the computer fault codes to be accessed from the digital display on the speedo.
Please compliment them on the tank size and range, low weight plus the tappet adjustment ease.

I can honestly say if I could have purchased a cast wheel V7 with shiny paint, center stand, easy rear wheel removal and similar performance to a Bonneville for similar or slightly more dollars to the Bonneville, my money would have gone to Italy instead of England.

Sorry for the long post but I was disappointing I could not buy what I wanted and this has given me a chance to vent.

Steve

Small Block, 4V, OHC, if they are lazy, there is one in the museum to take inspiration from (I would prefer the 90° rotated heads, but I can accept the Falco layout).

How about something else simple...a better, more informative owner's manual. I don't care how many languages it might be in, but it is less than adequate.

I'd like to see two model lines:

1) Sport Line, to replace the Norge, Griso, 1100 Sport, Daytona, V11 Sport & V11 LeMans.   3 models, Super Sport (Faired and Naked Cafe) and Sport Tourer (perhaps the super sport faired version with sport tour pack).  I'd like much more performance, more than the current 1200 8v and lighter too.  Perhaps a lightweight 1400 in higher state of tune.

2) Touring Line (new Norge), something along the lines of BMW 1200 RT (a really fantastic bike).  Full touring- not a cruiser like the current Cali.  The 1400 would make a good foundation but add performance and features (radio, GPS, etc.), standard riding position and keep the weight down.  The Beemer is quite a benchmark but I'd rather have Italian styling and performance.

You might print this thread and hand it to them.

Midsized (1000cc) automatic bike with Tonti frame/ ergos,  with sidecar lugs. Reverse. It would be very easy for Piaggio to give Ural a run for the money.

Norge Pilot,

You'll also see a Red '07 Griso and Silver Scarabeo (the kid) there.  Free T-shirts!

My understanding is this is mainly a California / MGX thing.  I'm not sure if they want to talk about other bikes or suggestions.

Mine would be another Falcone
