He was an avid motorhead, loved Italian bikes and cars.
Gosh, that seems so odd.
-
I didn't know that he was into bikes.
I always liked J Geils Band

Man, that's a surprise. "Found dead during a wellness check." I saw them live a couple times and have all the early albums. We sat very close to the stage when they were at the McDonough Arena in DC around the late '70s.

 They were a tight, fun band. RIP, "Play your gee-tar, J!"

Lot of good music coming out of greater Boston during that time. Great place to grow up as a teen. Many knew Geils songs but the band was still very unknown across the country unlike Aerosmith, Boston and The Cars.

He often attended the IMOC rally each year.

You gotta give it to me..............
saw 'em in the 70s

For many past performers it appears that hitting the 70s is fatal. Road life ain't for sissies.

For whatever reason, most rock performers smoke cigarettes and do other things that are not conducive to long life. Tobacco use was evident in the cover photos and art of J. Geils albums.

Seems to be happening at a faster clip now. I like their music. We're all getting older..... buy that bike, ride the hell out of it.

They warmed up for the Stones when they played Roundhay Park, Leeds in the early 80s, but they never really broke the UK.

No surprise there....they are barely known to many in the States. Just a nice little group from the Greater Boston area that had a few pop hits that still land in movies/tv today. Many of the kids that work for me in their 20's know the songs but no clue what a J Geils is................. ..

You reminded me of seeing the J.Geils Band open for Dickey Betts and Great Southern, who opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd, who opened for Peter Frampton, at the JFK Stadium in Philidelphia. It was a great day of rock, but Frampton was an odd choice after the previous three, and many of the audience filtered out during his performance.

He lived just down the street from where I work, drive by everyday. Very modest home, think he tried to keep a low profile. Was lots of commotion when I went by on the way home yesterday, police and rescue vehicles there. Was sorry to hear the news of his passing last night.
Will miss the frequent sightings of him out test driving one of his classic Italian cars. One day last summer when leaving work on my Triumph, he had just pulled out in his Alpha. Got to follow him for a couple of miles at a spirited pace.
Here's a link to an interview from a few years ago talking about his collection of cars. Near the end of the video a bike is partially visible, pretty sure it's a modified Benelli 900 sei

Yeah, back when I bought my Laverda I was riding between Ayer and Groton, and an Alfa made out as if to race..but the driver was grinning. Gave me a thumbs up, no idea who it was until years later.

Saw them here in Houston in 76, put on a great show. I thought making it to your seventies was a long life.

It seems that way until you approach the 70s.

I'm not sure if they ever got to Australia, but my mates and I all loved the Whama Jama track and we all had a pirate cassette amongst our play list. Hot Harp!

Very first rock concert I went to, circa 1972, J. Geils Band(headliner), Foghat, Montrose.

I think I saw the same one. But was thinking it was '74-75?

According to the J. Geils Band blog:
12/15/73 Cleveland Public Hall, Cleveland, OH w/ Foghat, Ronnie Montrose
1/18/74 – San Antonio Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, TX – w/ Foghat Foghat, Montrose

The one I saw was at the Rochester NY War Memorial. Admittedly, my memory of those years is somewhat...hazy.

Now known as Pocono Raceway, it was home to the Concert 10 rock concert on July 8 and 9, 1972. Featured bands were:

The Groundhogs
Ramatam (with Mitch Mitchell)
Bull Angus
Cactus
Edgar Winter
July 9
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Faces with Rod Stewart
Humble Pie
The J. Geils Band

The only bands I can remember from this show were Edgar Winter,ELP and J Geils! :afro:
Yes we had a great time!

My very first rock concert as well, 1982 Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland Maine. Growing up Seacoast NH 70-s 80-s, J Geils was simply the soundtrack. I was so stunned when I moved to SoCal after high school to learn that aside from The Centerfold/MTV stuff, no one had any idea who they were.
Hey Raputa the Beauta, throw down yo hair lemme climb up the ladda o yo love....
There's a promo pic from their early 80's heyday of him wearing a Moto Guzzi Tshirt, actually.
Sad passing. Thanks John.
