Bar End mirrors for V7 Racer
« on: March 12, 2012, 11:43:56 AM »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has looked at bar end mirrors for their V7 Racer (or Classis Cafe) and can recommend a pair that suits the bike.  I'm looking around but don't have enough experience to feel that I can make a correct choice given that I've not used bar end mirrors before.  I think others with experience might be able to guide me in the correct direction and avoid mistakes.

Thanks.

I'm using Motrax.
The company went bust but they are still out there on ebay etc.
The diameter was not large enough to fit them over the bar ends, so I have them friction fitted between the bar and weights, end they are solid,

Awesome Paul.  I'll look into those.

BTW, which half fairing have you attached to your V7?  I'm interested in the same mod and am looking at several fairing offerings.  It woud be helpful for me to understand how you accomplished this.  Please PM me.

Thanks.

Motrax was a CycleGear house brand.  About a year ago, they simply re-named most of the Motrax stuff "Speedmetal."  Not sure how that's any better, but, whatever....

I have a set of their billet folding bar-end mirrors on the SV.  IIRC, I paid around $50 or $60 for them, on sale.  They come in flat black or chrome.  I have the flat black.  The quality is fine, and they are easy to adjust.  You can spend a bit more on Rizoma or other fancy brands, but I'm not into $200 mirrors.  You can also spend a few dollars less on no-name eBay versions of this mirror, but the CycleGear lifetime satisfaction warranty was worth the few extra dollars, IMO.

http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/billet_bar_end_mirrors/web1006842

(After I got mine, a guy I know began selling what he advertises as a better quality mirror in the same style, for a few dollars more  -- $99/pair.  His company is called Moto Elite.  You might want to check their mirrors out and compare them to the others that are out there. http://motoelite.bigcartel.com/product/folding-bar-end-mirrors )

I think these look best on cafe style naked bikes, like the V7.  The mirror is a little small, so it is slightly convex to give a wider view.  Being small, low, and convex, they take some time to get used to.

I also have a pair of Napoleon bar-end mirrors, which I have yet to try.  IIRC, I paid around $45 for them, used.  I think new ones are around 2X that price.  They also come in either flat black or chrome.  IMO, they also look good on bikes like the V7.  Maybe not as sharp as the round  ones, but they give a wider field of view (without any distortion), and you can mount them with the mirror over the grips, or flip them and have the mirrors sticking out more.  (I've even seen some people mount them with the mirrors under the grips, but I would imagine they are harder to use in that location.)

Carl is correct.
It's the Stucchi fairing.
I think a few V7 owners have these fitted now.
Most mirrors are an "insert" fit and work like a rawl plug, so that once inserted into the hollow handlebars and tightened, they expand to create a tight fit inside the bar.
The big problem with fitting bar end mirrors to the V7's is that the bars are solid inside, so this type of fitment is out unless you fancy drilling out the inside of the bars, which would be a lot of hassle.
Here's something that Corsa Italiana in the UK have developed.

I think they're Motrax, with Suzuki end weights.

This is a PM Alfa 75 sent to me some time ago re bar ends:

Hello Roofus!
the bar end mirrors are the universal 3" CNC type.  You can pretty much find these anywhere online and parts stores such as Cycle Gear.  I found mine on Ebay, example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Beautiful-CNC-Round-7-8-Bar-End-Mirrors-Black-Universal-/310342769716?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4841dedc34

The other item that makes it all work are the bar-end mounts.  These thread in directly on the bar ends and are machined specifically for clamping the CNC mirrors on them.  A bit pricey but well worth it - available in stainless or black finish.

http://www.e-securedsite.com/RHINOMOTO/store/myProducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=4%7CBarend%20Sliders%20and%20Mirrors&productID=298&showDetail=1&categoryID=119|Moto%20Guzzi%20Barend%20Sliders&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=4%7CBarend%20Sliders%20and%20Mirrors

This setup worked great for me. Clean, direct bolt on.
Hope this helps!

I put chrome Napoleans on mine. They are probably a tad large but I like seeing what's behind me.

I bought some bar end mirrors at a local Honda shop only to find that on the Café (and the Racer) that the bar end weights are swaged into the bars. Not willing to possibly damage an unreasonably expensive Guzzi part, I returned the mirrors and mounted some from a Sport 1200. Great mirrors, but not for a fairing. If I get to the fairing point, I'll have to see what's available.

How odd.  On my 09 V7 Classic the bar end weights are screwed on.  I wonder if Guzzi changed it for later models.

Look at the Rizoma mirror

Then the Motrax fitted to mine.

They look like exactly the same part to me.

Hello to you all!

I'm new in the forum but I already have to thank you all since I found lots of useful information.

I have the same problem with the bar end mirrors. I just bought a pair of Halcyon 830 classic bar end mirrors (http://classicpartsltd.com/classic-motorcycle-products/classic-motorcycle-mirrors/830-halcyon-bar-end-mirror.html - in my opinion, the most beautiful of all models which I saw until now and with a very good relation between price /quality) and they do not fit because of the fixed weights.

My question to you all is if any body already accomplished the removal of this weights and inserted mirrors like this ones (that insert themselves inside the bar)? Do you think if will be dangerous or bad for the motorcycle if I ask Guzzi or other dealer to cut them and put the mirrors?

Your help will be great since I have to decide if I return or not these beautiful Halcyon Mirrors that at this point are inside the box!

Thank you all in advance.

Best regards
Nuno

I would think at the very least it will be expensive to have a dealer do what you want done.

I put these on the T.  After a year the rivets loosened a bit and the mirrors blurred with vibration.  I glued in some strips of bicycle innertube and that made the view steadier than ever, and made the mirrors easier to adjust. I like them.

It's only a matter of the correct thread bolt and the end that comes with the mirror can be adapted to fit the standard threaded insert in the guzzi clipons. I run a set of black billet ones. Can't recall brand but look very similar to youcanrunnaked's.

Thanks for the tip, Testarossa.  I eventually purchased the Corsa Italiana mirrors from my local MG dealership and fitted them to the V7 Racer.  They work well and fit nicely.  If they experience the loose rivet problem, I'll follow your advice.  Next for me is to fit my new Stucchi fairing.

used a set of crg lane splitters (actually only one on the left hand side for now)...sawed off the tip of the adapter, used a longer bolt, and employed the chrome weighted bar ends as well....looks great (i think!).

(still need to de-sticker the bike and cap off the mirror threads)

http://www.corsaitaliana.com/index.php?f=data_v7_classic_&a=0

Scan down a few pics and U will see them! Also ordered my MG matching helmet for the V7 (Father's Day Gift) I figured as long as I was paying overseas shipping I might as well make it worthwhile. Again if anyone is interested I can attach pics?

Don't bother.  Just remove the two screws, invert them and reinstall the screws.  They'll look great.  And in the future, you can reverse the operation on one to make a receptacle for a RAM mount for a GPS.

Easy to drill and tap the plug to the proper size for bar-ends.

No need to drill, they just screw straight in

Motrax Bar-End Mirros for my CX100 - $25 for the pair, on E-Bay, Shipped to my house.

Took a 60-MPH spill in 2007; tumbled and slid down the pavement about 40 ft..

Sheared off Right-side Footpeg and Case Guard. Same side Exhaust down-pipe and The Can suffered a bad case of Road Rash.

Right Side Case Guard:

The Right-side Motrax Bar-End Mirror fared the worst - But it folded as designed, and as can be seen in the pics below,

It Took a beating but keeps on ticking.. to this day, 5 years later  ;-T

I like the CRG lane-splitters on my modern bikes, but use Napoleons for the older ones.  I used to have CRG's on my V7 Sport, but changed them out to Napoleons and think they look great.
