OK. I'm going to do a basic repeat of the OPs post in the hope that it will help anyone who is still confused. It may also help any of you who choose to use Imageshack for online photo storage.

Personally I use Imageshack (the free version) for storing on line the pics I want to post. It's all I use it for really. The only gripe I have with Imageshack is that some pics, esp. older ones,  seem to be temporarily unavailable periodically.

I use Irfanview, another free downloadable program, as my usual viewer and manipulator of pics. It's a pretty simple and basic little program but does nearly everything that I want.

Before I upload to Imageshack, I use Irfanview to re-size the pics. I find it easier to do it at that point.
For nearly all pics I'm posting on the forum I re-size to  640x480 which is quite big enough, (all the following pics are that size) or for a bigger pic, 800x600.  Any bigger than that won't fit on a lot of screens. Imageshack also provides you with the opportunity to re-size as part of the upload process. A recently added feature.

The following looks a bit long and complicated, but it is not in fact.

Uploading an image and posting as part of the process.

After opening Imageshack in your browser if you push the Media Upload button, you get this window;

After clicking Browse I've selected an image and used the Imageshack tool to re-size it.

Once uploaded, a small version of the image is displayed in the upper left of the screen;

Over to the right of this is the button Continue to the image links

When you push it you get this;

You can see that down in the "Links to share your image" section I have clicked in the box labeled "Forum Code"

All I have to do then is click the Copy button on my browser, and, in the message composition box on the forum, click Paste.

In the composition box it will look like this;

But I choose to Backspace over the bottom line that begins with "Uploaded with" as it is just Imageshack advertising. It then looks like this;

When you go to "Preview" or post your message, there is your picture!

Here it is by the way. It's the 2013 Mogan 3 wheeler. Yes, they are making them again and the base model will only cost you 25000 Pounds Stirling!!!  :o

Posting a pic already stored on Imageshack.

A pretty similar process with out all the uploading. When you open your Imageshack page, your pics are displayed like this;

The pics have a series of icons alongside each thumbnail

Clicking the top on, the blue 'i' takes you to the share' window;

I 'un-tick' the box for 'Include Details' which leaves this;

From there it is just a matter of Clicking in the 'Forums' box, and copying and pasting as before.

Here is the pic. It is the refurbished Endeavour.

Done! And what an exercise making this post turned out to be. I hope it is of some help to someone. If not, it was an interesting exercise for me. I obviously have too much time on my hands, probably as a result of being temporarily unemployed. (again... sigh)

I have a question I would like to post and wish to add a photo to better ask my question.

Might someone provide a bit of guidance on how to proceed?

Thanks,

What I have ended up doing is posting the picture in Facebook (Photo Bucket will work too) I put it in an album called Technical and set the privacy setting to Only Me so it doesn't get sent out to every one else. Now when you want to post a picture here:

1)  find the icon that says Insert Image. you should see img and \img both surrounded by brackets with the cursor blinking in-between them.
2)  go to the Facebook album and open the picture, put the cursor over the picture and Right Click the mouse.
3)  Select "Copy Address"
4)  paste the address at the blinking cursor located between img and \img
5)  go to the bottom of the pane and select Preview to see if it worked.

This works for me on a Mac. Seems like a lot of trouble and well it is a lot of trouble but I guess it saves space on this server. Hope this helps.

Yes the best way is to have the photo hosted somewhere (like Photobucket) and then link it 'direct'.
Or, you can just link a photo you found somewhere on the web - on windows right click the photo and click "copy image location" - then paste that into the space left when you click on the "Insert image" button above the dialogue box of the post..
Note that on many web-forums there are a minimum number of posts before you're able to link pix.. not sure here but it may be about 5 or so posts before you're able to..

I'm REALLY glad you brought this up..
I'm sure I'm missing something here but presently I'm on five different forums and to add a pic is so intuitive and easy compared to this forum? U simply browse your desktop for said pic and enter it .......that's it. Don't have to use a third party hosting service and since I don't use social media. I see the post here all the time as to the difficulty of simply posting a pic and I'm sure there is a good reason (I'm just not aware of it)
Anyway just my two cents?

regards

It's easy when you get used to it, I think I got it after reading my 3rd tutorial on the subject. But I'm ADD where computer instructions are concerned.

I'll post for you if you want to e mail it to me.

Many THX for the offer to post pics when needed. I just need to find the time and set down and work it out? I still don't understand though WHY it's so easy to post pics on other forums?
I will use The Connie Forum for example. After you do your thing ie: try to say something either intelligent or witty whatever the case may b then you click on attachments and then N Big Bold Print it says Attach: Just hit the browse button and choose your photo so easy. I can't remember when anyone has written in and saying how do U attach photos.
PLS don't anyone take this as just me criticizing the forum I'm just trying to understand Why one (forum) has to be more difficult than another one?

because that forum hosts the pic itself requiring a huge amount more (band width?) (server space?) ($) . We had that once here but it runs smoother if the pic gets hosted elsewhere on the web .

OK......I got it! Of course point well taken! It's $40/yr to be a member of Connie Owners and here I just donate what I feel is the right amount. I can certainly understand now and my question was answered.

Ciao Tutti,

I know this is stupid, I search on the topics before asking...  I am familiar with many other forums but cannot seem to find the "attach image" button...
Am trying to attach images directly from my computer...  Do I first have to ask the administrator to enable this feature??

Many Thanks
Carlo

The image button is on the 2nd row, 2nd from the left, under the italics button. You can't post a pic directly from your computer, you'll have to upload it to a host site like photobucket, I post pix from a facebook album.

There is no "attach" feature currently, only an "insert" an image that is hosted elsewhere as Skin points out.

If you open the picture in Photobucket click on the
Links to Share This Photo / IMG box and it copies it into memory
Come back here and just Crtrl V (Command V for a Mac) and it's done

Someone more savvy than me should animate the process.

All,

Apologies...but I really want to post pictures here.  I have an external hosting site.  How does it work again?
Looked in FAQ:  seems dated to 2008 and obsolete.

thanks
