Until a couple of weeks ago I had a 2007 Breva which was purchased new in March of 2012.  The dash failed at 1,824 miles and was replaced under warranty.  Now I have a 2012 Norge and so far so good.

2006 Breva 1100, dash still working at 24,000+ miles; ridden occasionally in the rain, but have the Breva windshield which may provide some protection from rain hitting the panel. I usually let the electronics go through their routine before starting it.  Could it be that windshields make a difference?  Just trying to think of a common factor for failure or no-failure (besides being Italian).

Hi
I'm new to the forum, however my 07 Breva 1100 dash had failed at 7000 miles due to water intrusion causing an internal short.  My new replacement (on my dime $$$) lasted 26 miles before the LCD portion of the screen began to go dark intermittently.  Now my "dealer" will not return my phone calls concerning a replacement.  I love my Guzzi, but this may be my last based on how this problem is being "handled" and lack of MG support.  Has there been any new developments on these defective dashes?
Thanks,
Coaster

It'd be reassuring if something like this could replace the integrated dash unit:

Wow,
If someone could fab a plug and play harness/adaptor for that unit I'd be first in line!

the immobilizer is in the dash connected to the Key, It won't start without I think.

I saw a Lamborghini V-12 crammed into a Fiat 500, and it amazed me to think that it's easier to retro-fit a supercar engine into ANYTHING than to get an air-cooled Guzzi engine to function without its' half-assed ECU.  If this cottage motorcycle fad thing of theirs doesn't pan out, then they could spin off into computer firewall anti-hacking software development.  They've really got that nailed down tight!

AND UNFORTUNATELY, if the Norge dashes aren't failing (or are at a much different rate, the poll is very deceptive because it didn't separate Breva and Norge).

Agree.  And I needed to vote twice - once for the Breva & once for the Norge.  Poll was clever enough to know that I'd already cast my vote & wouldn't let me vote again.

My results : Norge dash is good.  Breva dash is bad (water ingress).  Both ticked up about 50,000 miles.

I had my Breva dash replaced due to water intrusion, the second dash lasted 26 dry miles before the LCD portion went blank.  My failure rate is 200%

my 06 breva dash failed at under 13k about three years ago.   kev m.  double check my memory but i believe someone had gathered the production run numbers of a good portion of those that failed and they tended to cluster up in terms of their production numbers.
as for moisture, i seldom rode in any serious rain , had the guzzi screen and was careful in washing it......saved the failed unit and sent it to a guzzi rider in new zealand who wanted to check it out.  i emailed him about this thread and hopefully he will respond with what
he found.  coaster,  certainly understand your frustration.   i too was poorly treated but was able to sell the bike and accessories for reasonable money and got a different bike.  however, there isn't a day go by that i don't think of that red charlatan.........

'07 1200Sport - 106,000 kms.  No real problems but may absorb water if I put the hose on the dash so I don't, but when that happened careful application with a hair dryer did away with any fogging.

Hi everyone,
I regret to say I sold my beloved Guzzi.  This dash failure issue took on a life of it's own, I was looking at another dash (#3) replacement on my 7000 mile bike.  ABSOLUTELY no help from Piaggio "customer "service" or the "dealer" who now refused to return my calls.  I had never been treated so poorly from a company before.  I wish Piaggio would get their act together and stand behind their loyal customers.  One of the best bikes money can buy, backed by non-existent customer support.  You're a great group of guys, I hope to see you on the road.  I'll be on my R1150RT with 154000 trouble free miles on the clock.
All my best,
Coaster

I'm trying to get some numbers here of actual Dash failures, quite often there will be a thread about an individual dash failure and then the thread will run off in a direction about Piagios non response and the expense of replacements. If possible I'd like any responses to this thread to be just personal experiences, ie: if your dash failed, post and say when mileage and the cost of replacement. I'm just curious if the dash failure is as wide spread as we may think.

'07 Norge: failed with less  than 7000 miles.

Don't know the replacement cost as yet as I may elect to have the unit repaired instead of purchasing a new OEM dash.   I'm  following a post from fellow forum member 'Bisbonian' who has sent his failed dash to CARMO (in the Netherlands) for repair. He said he will post the results of his rebuilt dash as soon as its returned.

08 Sport 1200, okay so far, 38,000 miles. Had 06 Breva that dash failed, around 15,000, replaced under warranty.

And yes, I have the dreaded condensation in my 1 year old Norge dashboard.
I vividly remember the failed dashboard of my previous Breva, so not good news >:(
Must be the Belgian climate (and crappy dashboards)
Contacting my dealer to see if MG is willing to replace under warranty (dashboard still functions, so won't be easy, I guess)

Sports have an inordinate failure rate because they were built using a batch of dashes with drain holes too high.

The PCB inside the housing goes to the bottom of the dash.  If you look at an early Sport dash housing, the drain holes are a half inch above the bottom.  This allows condensation to pool, the PCB sits in water, corrodes and....your dash fails.

My replacement had drain holes at the bottom edge of the dash.

Failures from post 2009 bikes are very rare.

I know of at least one person who drilled drain holes in their dash but I don't remember who it was.

The dash is thin, the plastic is brittle and the PCB is in there....I almost think melting holes would be better than drilling.  I couldn't own a Sport without knowing it had the newer dash or having a spare($800!!!).  The bike is a paperweight without the dash.

FWIW my 2012 Sport Corsa dashboard started misting up as soon as the weather turned colder last year. New dash, old dash, doesn't seem to make any difference in my experience.  :-[

1 Year old you would hope they'd replace under warranty.

After 3 failed dashes I had one repaired at CarmoUSA, they're out of the Netherlands so probably a bit closer to you to send to the actual company and not the US branch. They found that water damage was the culprit for mine, probably the same for all 3. Price was much cheaper than buying a new dash, they offer a 1 year warranty and I feel like they did a good job.

Twice my 2011 display has been blank when after starting but came up again at the next restart. Both happened during my first year of ownership. Have only rode it in a bit of light rain so far and neither of the blank displays were during wet conditions.

Update:

And the answer is no, as expected.
MG does not accept fogging up, only real water drops, with pictures as proof.
By the time you see drops, the dash will probably be out of warranty.  And the next step will be a failed 800+ euro dashboard.  Don't ask me how I know.
Sigh....

Don't wanna jinx myself, but here goes -
1200 Sport
One screen blackout at 26000 miles
No additional dash issues, and am currently at 46000 miles
Griso 8vSE
No issues at 7000 miles.  This bike hasn't seen a hard rainstorm.  The Sport has, but the bikini fairing keeps a lot of water off the dash.  And if parked overnight in the rain, I cover the dash with a plastic bag.
Main ride:  2008 Guzzi 1200 Sport (sold July 2020)
2012 Griso 8v SE (sold Sept '15)
Reliable standby: 1991 BMW R100GS
2014 Honda CB1100 (Traded Nov 2019)
New:  2016 Triumph T120 (Traded Dec 2021)
New:  2021 Kawasaki W800
