I think I stand corrected...if one digs a bit you can find these amazing bikes. Reflecting on my brief time with these bikes, I went from zero V11's to two of them in 5 weeks. Looking at a 2000 V11 Sport right now. So while I believe I'm done (for now) with the acquisition of V11's I'll always be looking to see what's out there.

You *need* to check out that Coppa.. An Ohlins V11S is quite a good handler.

OK...I'll check it out. But I can't find it. Looked on Cycle Trader, eBay, Craigslist (Atlanta). If anyone knows where it is please let me know.

Still looking?     In ATL area, a Coppa Italia may be for sale. Owner was looking to have it serviced before sale.

Steve,

Could you get me info on this bike. PM sent but I'm having trouble with it.

Congratulations. Shame about the fly & ride not working out for. And Yes, pictures please.

Mal

The fly and ride is back on!  I think I have it worked out to pick up the new to me V11 Lemans on Aug. 7.  Very exciting, but...
Cleaned the Griso up today to list it for sale.  Hate to see it go, but am looking forward to my first run with a spine frame.  A new to me bike every few years keeps it interesting.

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a 2000 V11 Sport. Trans recall done no rod bolt issue. Thought having a red frame V11 would be a nice addition to my '03 and '02 LeMans. Anyone care to opine on the red frame V11's.

Thanks!

I had a red frame for ~7 years and really enjoyed it.  Ultimately it was too large for sccotering around the city streets and recently got a V7 which fits my use better.

I never road the non red frame V11's.  I did not feel it to be any more or less "twitchy" than other bikes I have ridden in the past.  As odd as this may sound, other than weight difference and a slightly more upright riding position, my V7 doesn't seem all that much different in handling out on the back roads.

Cosmetically, I like the clean look of the original V11's despite not having the better suspension as others have mentioned.

OK...you guys have me doubting my thought of getting a V11 Sport. I really don't need another V11 but since I got into these bikes so late in the game I find myself wanting to scoop up a few. I've never in the past ever wanted more than one of what I was riding at the time. These V11's just appeal to me in a way that other bikes have failed to in a long time.

What I'm really enjoying about the V11 is the rawness with an overlay of a somewhat modern chassis and  really good brakes. Just a hoot to ride and an overall simplicity and ease of maintenance plus fantastic aesthetics that just add to its appeal.  I agree that I probably should look more in the direction of a Ohlins equipped bike. That way I would have the best combination of engine characteristics and a really good chassis/suspension set up and the more than capable Brembo brakes...the best of a V11.

Maybe I just should try and find a '04 Cafe Sport? I think I'd rather have a handlebar equipped bike next. While I can ride my '03 LeMans without much effort I do find after 75-100 miles or so I'd like to be sitting up a little more. Plus...I think the Cafe Sport did not have the single plate clutch issue. But...a RC or NC would be a sweet bike.

You have learned rapidly, Grasshopper.  Dr. John's race bike chassis gets the job done, good brakes, and that great Guzzi engine. Now, about that screen name..  :boozing:

Yeah...that screen name. Its left over from several years ago when I had BMW motorcycles and cars at the same time. Actually goes back about 20-21 years ago when I signed up an AOL account in 1994. Had two BMW bikes an M3 then. I've had BMW's most of my life so the name stuck.

Been BMW free since 2010 when I sold my M3. I should move on to a more relevant name.

OK fella.  We'll see.  You're a hot sierra rider that edged me out by a bike length at Road America, so therefore, I am slower rider on a slower bike.

But I might get lucky.

And it doesn't matter, the Greenie looks better.  Something MS will never over come.

Hi, GuzziDavid

Now you're gettin' somewhere!  Nothing wrong with early V11's, particularly if you like the look (and the greenies are especially tasty).  However, you do already have two with clip-ons, and with the stated intent of getting a bike with a bars, you might want to focus on one of the later, special models.  These have great suspension, and probably most of the bugs worked out.  The Caf Sport is a great choice, but a Coppa Italia is just as good.  The only thing that some people don't like about these later bikes is that the headlight is frame-mounted, and protrudes forward more than the fork-mounted version.  That, and the color choices are limited, so you have to like them as they are.

Best of luck!

Shaun,

My intentions are to sell the '02 LeMans soon. I've only had it a few weeks but since then I acquired my '03 LeMans which is for all intents a new bike (3175 Miles when I bought it) and the V11 Sport I'm looking at has a set of MPH risers and they appear to be a bit taller than the stock bar position on my '03 LeMans. So that may help a bit with my longer rides. I know I could put risers on my '03 but other than installing the Ti kit I want to keep it as it is.

Meanwhile I do believe I'll keep an eye out for the right Café Sport or even a sorted (clutch, they have the single plate clutch?) Coppa Italia. At that point I may consider selling the V11 Sport should I purchase it, but it is a red frame and just for that I may just end up keeping it.

Having a good time with all of this. "GuzziDavid" I like that. Question for the mods...can I make a change to my screen name?

No. They were the last of the breed (the last of the REAL Guzzis)   before Aprillia, Piaggio, etc. and are as sorted from the factory as Guzzis get.

Chuck,

Good to know. For some reason I thought the Coppa had the infamous single plate clutch. This makes choosing the Coppa a no brainer. So either a Café Sport or a Coppa...hmmm.
