If you have a bike without a center stand, would you get one piece of UHMW  long enough for both tires to fit on and wide enough to put the side stand down on?

That would work. You'd need to make sure the floor was flat,  not for turning but so that as any tire or the side stand move they don't move up and down going over bumps.

You could save some money by getting a piece of 3/4" or thicker plywood and make the spanning part and then just put thin UHMW panels on the friction spots, where the tires sit and where the side stand rests. The plywood eliminates the need for any slots to keep the bike on the panel, friction should take care of that. Test and go easy.

I imagine the method to turn would be the same, standing center of the bike, it leaning toward you, grab handle bar on full turn position and rear grab bar and spin the bike. Be careful you don't push away from  you but act to spin the bike.

Your post points out something, for the Norge one could use a thin 1/4 plate of UHMW under a piece  of 1/2" plywood, something that might be laying around. That reduces the costbof materials but more important eliminates the need to bore out slots for the center stand.

A plywood top gives plenty of friction so that the bike won't move off the panel unless you push too hard. A little silicon spray works wonders but you do end up with a slippery spot on the floor so beware.

Materials that work fine:

UHMW
VHMW
Acetal
Delrin
