Ha ha.  If they don't leak oil they don't have oil!  That's what we used to say way back in the day when we were a whole lot dumber and younger.
Neat garage for sure.

Yes, the home is equipped with two attached two-car garages.  The gentleman said the car, and bikes get out regularly, but his wife didn't ride anymore.

I think the 442 looks *ok*, but there are better looking cars from that period.

But I've always thought the naming was a blatant attempt to mislead the buyer and that kind of puts me off the car.

Lots of good looking cars, but this is near the top of the list for me.

I know the background for the name (although the 2 was for the dual exhaust of course), but don't you think they were just trying to find some combination of features to make it sound like the engine was as big as the competition?
Dodge had the 440 and 426, Chevy had the 454 and Ford had the 429. But Oldsmobile "only" had the 400 (except for the Hurst special that doesn't count!). I've always thought they were just trying to give it a capacity boost with a contrived name. Why didn't they call it the 244? [emoji16]

My little 1300cc Suzuki has 2 doors and 4 wheel drive. I guess I could put a 2.4 sticker on the back [emoji23].

As far as I know, only in the limited edition Hurst model. Otherwise the biggest option was the 400.

Edit: nice poster pictured above. But you notice they don't mention the engine size? [emoji6].

I believe you are correct. Looks like 68, 69, and 72 offered the Hurst with the 455.

This was all ancient history even by the time I was in college so when I got into Olds I had to research it even then.

the 455 engine was available in any 442 or standard equipment by 1970 I believe....GM corporate tried to impose a 400 cubic inch limit on midsized regular production cars....But that went away in 1970.

I really loved the 67 442 with the louvered hood. I guess it would only do 14s in the quarter, but it seemed really quick in 1973...

Almost all Muscle and Pony cars ran in the 14's...A few highly tuned models ran mid to high 13's.The 1/4 mile times posted in the magazines were more often than not well tuned examples. that the average Joe at the track couldn't match.....On modern tires they run a bit faster..

Further research indicates that you're right [emoji106].
From 1970 the 455 indeed became the standard engine in the 442. Until that model year it was the 400.

And all this time I believed it was only ever in the limited edition Hurst models. Oh well, you live and learn. [emoji16]

I grew up with Morris Minors, Vauxhall Vivas and Ford Cortinas. It was very rare to ever see any US cars. But I remember as a boy in the early seventies watching those road movies and being captivated by those Challengers and Mustangs and GTOs. Massed produced obviously, but beautiful proportions!
These days the prices are unfortunately ridiculous!  [emoji45]

As laughably awful as it was on road it was brilliant off road, something to do with stupidly low gearing and something about weighing about what some of the bigger quads tip the scales at now. You were never going to get a speeding ticket in a hurry in it.
