Tulsa/Bob Dylan ride- June 3rd

(1/3) > >>

LowRyter:
Next Friday, June 3rd, we're planning a meet up and ride to visit the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa.  We realize that Friday might be an inconvenience but the crowds have been large and Friday appears to be the best time to beat the crowds and perhaps a good day to arrange a three day weekend.  (Perhaps we can do a weekend visit at a later date?)  Michael D, our Tulsa host and myself are meeting at 10am for breakfast and then riding to Bob's about 11:30 or so.

Bob's papers, intellectual property and writings are held at the Bob Dylan Center.   It's the real deal.  It's just opened in the last couple of weeks after several years of preparation, planning and installation.  It's also close to the Woody Guthrie Center which similarly obtained Woody's papers.  Also, Leon Russell's "church" studio as now open for tours about a mile away.  So perhaps there'll be time to check out Woody's and/or Leon's?

The meet up starts at 10:00 for breakfast at Brookside Diner.  4510 S Peoria in Tulsa.  (Some of us here had breakfast at the Diner a few months ago after we met at the local Guzzi/Aprilia shop.)

Then 11:30 at the Dylan Center, "dual" tickets are available for both Bob's and Woody's.

Since I'm in OKC.  I plan to ride up old Rt 66 and leave from Pop's about 8 am.   If it rains, I do have a car, so I plan on going regardless.

I would like to hear from you.  All are invited.  If you're a Dylan fan, or heard of Bob Dylan, or know someone that's heard of Bob Dylan, you're qualified.  If you ride a Guzzi, or know someone............ you get the picture.

Michael D:

Looking forward to it!!!!

It's going to be a Rough and Rowdy group of riders to see the ultimate curmudgeon and his stuff.  Dylan keeps getting weirder and more bizarre as he ages...but, his show was excellent!

Saw him here in Houston in February this year, almost entirely made up of his new songs...if you're planning to see him in concert this year, and expect to hear any of the oldies, you'll be disappointed...he's almost entirely strutting the new stuff.  However, having said that, the concert was tight, well rehearsed and delivered with a punch.  Given that his new stuff is so lyric heavy, he doesn't even memorize anymore, he just reads from a book, carefully turning pages in the dark as the concert goes by.

Pity that Charlie Sexton is no longer playing with him, but Garnier is still strumming the bass after all of these years.

Curious to know if the museum is worth a visit...might swing by there on the next time thru.
