Vanson Leathers
« on: October 25, 2022, 09:23:22 PM »
I was picking up a rebuilt magneto from Doug Rogers in Fall River, MA (does really great work - Doug’s Cycle Barn) so I drove over to Vanson Leathers.  It’s worth a trip anytime and was a great stop on a rainy afternoon. Several sets of Dave Aldana’s old skeleton leathers hanging up as well as a really cool set of Thadd Wolf’s old leathers.  I found a great used Schott classic racer in black.  Great shape and fit perfectly for $350.00. Almost bought it.

It's always fun to go there.  So much to see.

Vanson makes a great product, have a full set of regular leathers, perforated leathers and textile vented jacket. The only problem I’ve had is with one bad leg zipper which I should get fixed but I always wear my boots on top of the legs. Never been to their store, one of these days.

I bought a set of Vanson leathers three or four years ago. They were probably many years old, new old stock. They don't have or even have provisions for any kind of protectors. Probably don't even need them, very thick and heavy. Yesterday I was out and about and at one point hung my jacket on a hook at the doctor's office. As I was leaving the Dr started to hand the jacket to me. He said this is really heavy. I told him that was so I didn't have to come see him with a bad case of road rash.

They are a favorite of mine.  Every couple of years they have a cycle event at their place.  V65 racer Ed Milich had a book signing there, and it was neat to rub elbows.

Newer jackets have provisions for armor, and it's great.  Consider upgrading to that.

I went to an event there to hear Dave Roper talk about his IOM prep and race.  It was very cool. Maybe time for a leather thread.

My Vanson jacket is pushing 30 years old. Still fits, and still in good condition.
Hands down the best jacket I've ever bought. Not cheap,
but worth every penny.

I look at their catalog and just start drooling........

Speaking of Schott, I've always wanted a horsehide jacket, which Schotts makes, or used to.   Vanson doesn't.  Not that I need another jacket....

You can get a protective vest to wear underneath. I have an A* flak jacket I wear.
