You tell a good story Huzo and you have reminded me of a great ride I once had, between Glen Innes and Grafton. The thrill of the early morning chill has stayed with me all these years. Thank you very much  :thumb:

Well, I just left Roper’s after Michael and he rebuilt the exploded CARC.
Under strict instructions, I rode up the road 10 k and checked for overheating and crunching noises, both were conspicuous in their absence.
A TB check found it to be very close, so a thumbs up and away..!
That it seems, will be the end of the story...
Stay tuned for the next exciting episode.

A quiet 800 k home and the bevelbox was as cool as a cucumber. No noises, not bad for an “unserviceable item”.
Living in the South East corner of Australia is a very good thing....

WOW, Thank you!  What a great offer!  Now I am missing Australia even more!  Thanks again and stay safe!

The “virus thing” is over now.
I’m reiterating the offer Griso 8V. Anyone who wants to come to Oz, can borrow my V85.

I was once accused of making the offer because I felt confident it would not be taken up...
I dare anyone to try me..

The poor Norge, so unloved, so misunderstood.

I wouldn’t feel too sorry for the old Norge.
I got an e mail last night that she’s on her way to London as we speak.

Nice read, Huzo.
First I hear about this bevel gear issue.
Wondering if it's something to check at some number of miles.
I only have 7500 miles on my Norge.

Yes mate I would at your earliest opportunity.
There does not seem to be any rhyme nor reason as to when the problem arises, if at all. But it is not a hard issue to deal with.

I'm glad I asked.
I looked through the parts list and it doesn't show a pinion nut in the bevel box.
The bevel gear exploded views are very limited in the parts list (Norge 1200 IE 2006-2008 file GU083)
I am trying to understand how big a job this is: DIY or dealer special.
Do you have a better parts list I can refer to?
Thanks!

You possibly will not find parts.
The bevelbox is an “unserviceable item”. Thunder bikes in Perth would not touch it, Peter Roper took on the job but could understandably not guarantee the results but I enjoyed the whole adventure of it.
He rebuilt it with new races and good quality parts he had from previous jobs.

There is a lot of history in there now, I like it more than a new one.
Pete is contactable through his e mail or on the Griso Ghetto forum as I understand.

The way I see it, he and Michael supported me at my lowest ebb and poured their expertise into my situation.
I respect and appreciate them for it.
I will ‘phone him in 15 minutes when he opens and ask his permission to pass on his e mail.

Huzo.

BTW..
He tells me that the top rubber boot on the reaction arm is no longer available, but he is looking to have a batch made in China.

Thank you, Huzo.
I appreciate your enthusiasm.
The workshop manual shows a bit more of the nut you refer to.
I think it might be reachable to check it is tight.
I will consult with Master Roper to get a better idea.

Has anyone else run into this problem or had the drive serviced!?

It has happened before.
It’s significant that mine did 194,000 km before it let go.
