Can someone tell me what size thin wrench for the nut above the cup on the steering bearings, I already figured out the 32mm above the tree, I'm going to tighten it up just a hair, po told me already greased the bearings but it is to loose. :bike-037:

IIRC, it's 36 mm.

My LM3 w/o gas tank just measured 32mm but it's off a Sport 1100.

Thanks guys, I'm upgrading my tool selection as I get more involved working on them myself, I just have the basics tools but the more I learn the more I update :boozing:

I just put a wrench on the one on my T3. It's a 36, like Charlie said. Would be the same on your Convert.

Yep, 32 checked again, BUT then I checked a T3 extra triple and it was 36.

Thanks, we just happen to have a harbor freight down the road from me, those will work for what I need, if I need to bear down I'll go find something a little better built, most of what I have is older craftsman :boozing:

Older Craftsman is pretty good for open end and box wrenches. I’m not sure where to return them under warranty anymore. My friend is a welder and he would return boxloads of tape measures that he burned through on the job. No questions asked.

I've got older Craftsman too. I'll vouch for the utility of that particular "service wrench" set, as I said.

Well I went to harbor freight and got the set of metric thin wrenches, only way for the 36 I need and boy are they cheap looking but it will work and then went to Lowe's and got a 32MMS craftsman socket which I thought was thin wall and it won't work, so I'll have to look elsewhere, now when you take a older craftsman to exchange you get a new one no questions asked but they are made in China now and not near the quality IMO.

Those service wrenches are a special type with short handles that you can beat on with a hammer or extend with a piece of pipe as needed. The short handles are often good for access to tight spots.
According to Harbor Freight, they are modeled after a type that was popular with farmers, back when farmers fixed their own tractors. I find them to be excellent for those odd sized large nuts that we encounter on motorcycle suspension components, fill plugs, and so on.

P.S. The older set I have are stamped "alloy steel," which is good, but the new ones are stated to be chrome vanadium. That's the alloy the old Craftsman wrenches were made of, but which the new ones are not. I'm not trying to compare HF and old Craftsman tools in general, but am just pointing you to a good tool for this job. Glad you bought it and think it will work out.

Yes they will work for what I will use them for and they do look sturdy enough, not to change the subject but what kind of tires you folks like to run on the convert, it came with half used out of date Dunlop 404s :bike-037:

I made my own spanner for that nut back in the 1980s.
Two reasons, cost (guzzi content) and thickness and I couldnt find a suitably sized spanner that wasnt about 5mm thicker than the available gap.
Just mild steel as it didnt need to be very strong and it doesnt get used all that often.

That would of worked Pete but I really don't have the means to make it myself and I didn't even think about that. Duh :thewife:
