Title: '95 Quota headlight upgrade
Post by: andy-gadget on March 12, 2019, 03:38:59 AM
When I aquired my '95 Quota last year, one of the first things I noticed was how cr@p the standard headlights are.
Combined with a stern warning from Mario at Thunderbikes in Western Australia to "don't even think of fitting more powerful headlight bulbs!", for those who don't own Quotas, the standard bulb is a pair of 35/35 H4 5.75" inserts in an all plastic single unit.

So after my 6 week tour around Easter Victoria and southern NSW, an improvement was called for.
A Guzzi riding mate in Hobart had another mate in Perth who had come to the same conclusion, most of the 7
Quotas in Oz are in the west.
His fix was LED inserts in an Aluminium mount.

I wanted to be able to adjust either insert individually, and I like steel fabrication as it is more on the road repairable, and it involves triangles :thumb:

So time to stop procrastinating and get stuck in.

Did I mention that I like triangles

A test ride tomorrow and it all has to come apart again for a coat of paint.

I am moderately happy with the outcome, but I always have regrets whenever I do one offs, as I can always find better ways of doping the job AFTER it is complete, but I will the WW2 winning "good enough, now" philosophy to live with for a while before revisiting it.

High beam.

All together.

Everything on.

I took the bike for a night ride and it is a vast improvement, a nice sharp cutoff on low beam, with a wide spread, and other than a reflection back into the fairing from the bottom of the inserts, everything I wanted.

This is just coming into the low beam light.

Good one, Gadget. And I thought my lights were under par. 35/35 must have been woeful.
