Never have and never will.  That is beside the point

I think it’s a nice video in as much as Piaggio has after more than 15 years finally figured out that Guzzi has tremendous potential in being what it is, not trying to be something else.  That’s huge progress, compared to the attitude after they bought Aprilia to eliminate their scooter competition and inherited an annoyingly historic and intractable brand that didn’t fit the inward looking Piaggio world view of the time.

Whether all the grand visions and glamour actually comes to fruition is another thing, but maybe it will.

Many of the Italian motorcycle brands have a history of private and state ownership followed by takeovers, amalgamation, breakups and being taken over by larger entities. After WWII Ducati was broken into two divisions, electronic and motorcycle, fell into government control, bought by Cagiva, sold to the Texas group to be taken over by Lamborghini which is owned by Audi who in turn are owned by VW, yikes that’s complicated.

The history of the Castiglioni brothers is similar with their buy out of Aermacchi after Harley gave up on the brand in the late 70’s, who then took over Morini and Ducati to only abandon Morini and then loose Ducati and who now build MV Augusta in the Varese factory where Aermacchi were first built!

By comparison I think Moto GUZZI have ended up in a better place after their time under government control, the DeTomasso era and finally as part of Piaggo. Perhaps Piaggo will finally give GUZZI the investment it needs to compete on a bigger field.

That's a beautifully done video of an exciting plan for the Moto Guzzi brand.

It'd be nice if you could rent bikes directly from Guzzi at their factory. Fly to Milan then ride all over Italy. I know there are other rental places, but it'd be nice to take a train from Milan to Mandello del Lario, stay at their soon to come hotel, tour the museum and ride from there.

The old world atmosphere and unassuming persona that Guzzi project, is part of it’s intrinsic charm.
The offerings that we have had to choose from ‘till now, have not attempted to compete with the current crop on the market.
If you don’t compete, you don’t have to win...
With the advent of the V100 and possible future iterations, in addition to the  new complex on the books, Guzzi are figuratively climbing into bed with the likes of Ducati, Aprillia and the performance twins of today’s biking landscape.
I’ll admit that Guzzi can do glamour and MV Agusta esque style beauty when they set out to do so.
An in house designed Guzzi prototype can hold  it’s head high in any company, they do have something that the others lack, but once you turn up to BMW’s and Ducati’s pool, you’d better be able to swim, because your feet won’t touch the bottom.
The new complex will have a lot that the old one lacked, but Guzzi will lose individuality and that cannot be bought (or brought), back...

Well said Huzo.  Moto Guzzi is facing the same problem that Harley Davidson has faced for decades.  Also BMW to a lesser degree.

How to improve upon an existing design, yet not change so much that one's mechanical identity is abandoned?

Failure to improve enough/get modern enough means the younger generation won't buy, too much change and the older riders won't buy either.

It is always interesting to see individuals or organizations try to walk that fine line.

Damn, I miss rotary telephones.....

i think guzzi is making good moves here, I know a few of the older guard are sad to see aircooled twins falling by the wayside, but I am sure they will keep at least the V7 range with the new 850 motor for a while to come.  I dont really believe the older generation is buying new bikes anyway... 90% of this board is still riding 70's Tonti bikes, older california bikes, loopframes, or some of the sporttouring 80's models.

The Wild Guzzi crowd has got nothing on the Suzuki Savage riders when it comes to being tight.  Suzuki Savage crowd makes the Wild Guzzi types seem like Rockefeller.

Reminds me of the joke:

Some say Fred is a cheap SOB!  Others say he knows the value of a dollar.  Still others say Fred is a cheap SOB who knows the value of a dollar.

As a group?  Absolutely!  You knew the answer to that before you asked!

You personally?  Only the shadow knows for sure......

I once bought a five year old Savage with 300 miles on it for $1400.  Great bike to tinker with.  Probably the greatest beginner street bike ever made.  Light, almost impossible to stall, and maintains 60 mph all day long!  Shoulda kept it!

Depending upon one's peers, being "CHEAP" is either a Badge of Honor or a Badge of Shame.  Pretty sure we all know which one it is around here......

One of the greatest things ever put on the internet:

Anyone looking to get their mechanically inclined children or grandchildren involved in motorcycling should buy a Savage and download the CD.....
