Aprilia Mana bars/2008 1200 sport bars
« on: February 14, 2021, 07:27:57 PM »
Greetings all.
So was hoping someone out there would know if a guy wanted to change out the factory bars on a 2008 1200 Sport.
Are the factory bars on the Aprilia Mana/GT (part # 851899 ) a straight across refit? another words controls and bar ends all just fit up no issues or mods?
Also are the Renthal street bars also a good straight across fit ( I cant tell if they come with locator holes predrilled in bar ends? It looks like the dia. for tree clamp and bar end controls should be the right size.
And finally of the two ( Renthal and Aprilia bars what would be the differences?....besides the Renthal appearing to be quite a bit cheaper???

To those who have done this conversion......... .. Thx in advance.

Ciao

I mounted Mana bars on my 12S.  It's a tight fit and takes some adjustment.  But no major issues.  IMHO it transforms the bike.

I agree on the Mana bars...I did likewise. Made a world of difference. As I recall I just had to modify a locating pin.

More recently though, Jim Hamlin (Hamlin Cycles, Bethel, CT) has been back-fitting Breva 1100 bars and risers to 1200 Sports...which is even more comfortable. You might want to call/talk to him to see what's involved.

So if you don't mind me asking.
What were the details involved in the refit?
Also what was the part # of the bars you used for your refit?

Thx in advance.

I couldn't stomach the price on the Mana bars.. I use a Protaper bar called 'KX High'

They dont fit the stock bar weights and you have to make your own locator holes for the controls.

But at like $45 I dont think you can beat them

Sorry, I can't remember the parts number.  I got the bars from AF1 racing.  They are familiar with the conversion.  Give them a ring.  I think I had to relocate a pin to fit the controls but it must have been easy.  I did it in an afternoon and I'm not too handy.

As refenced above, Aprilia part # 851899. They're silver instead of black, and have a mild taper out to the grip ends. In addition to providing move comfort, they look better and more upscale.

Again, there was a locating pin within the 1200 Sport triple clamp...and there's a small hole in the stock bar to accept it. So a similar hole needs to be drilled into the Mana bar (as I recall).

Or was the pin out at the switch assemblies, as also mentioned? I don't remember, but either way...it's no big deal.

No pin in the bar clamps, the controls have a locating/anti-twist pin

I’d like to put a set of Mana bars on my CalVin to replace the civilian Eldo bars I have now.  I like the shape of the Eldos, but the center section is about an inch shorter than it should be and the clamps don’t fit as well as i’d like.

Can someone with Mana bars measure the center section (the part between the bends where the clamps are) and tell me how long it is?  The Mana bars are too expensive to risk a bad fit.

5 inches.

The span of the 1200 clamps (from outboard edge to outboard edge) is 4 1/4 inches.

Just thought of something, lest someone try my Protaper KX High as an alternative...

My bike is a Breva 1100, not a 1200 Sport. Fitting the sport clamps and bikini fairing to the Breva was no problem, but I hated the 1200Sport bars... Thats why I went to the riser bar...
BUT my Breva had plenty of slack cable to accommodate this swap. It is entirely possible the same bars would not work on a 1200Sport because the cables may be a bit shorter.  I personally have no idea. The KX High bar was perfect for me, it's the tallest standard bar they make... But no idea if the Sport1200 cables are long enough to fit.

Just a thought.
