Show Us Your 1400's
« on: April 16, 2021, 05:59:07 AM »
How many 1400's are on this forum ?

I've had an on again/off again love affair with these bikes.

Pictures, anyone  ?

Here is mine.  A true mile eater.  I loved everything about this bike except its sheer bulk.  It was my first and only "bagger".  I traded in for a V85.

No Bulk but still a bagger. Hopefully it qualifies. Somehow my picture didn't upload last time

Well, there's bagger and "bagger".  The V85 could be called a pannier-er.

Wow - the tree really emphasizes the "split line" down the middle of the bike. It almost looks like a photoshop of two bikes!

It's the thing which cannot be unseen.

It would have taken no design effort at all to sweep the side cover up in front and break it up nicely. That's literally the only problem I have with these bikes aesthetically. I'm fine with the tank cutouts, the oddly shaped headlight, and whatever else people have nitpicked about.

But I have to actively ignore that line.

Hi Huzo,                                                                     4-16-21

I sometimes ride with a BMW club out of Asheville, North Carolina.  One of the members is a photographer who knows the route, rides on ahead and snaps photos of all who ride by.  He gives them away to anyone who is interested.

Great guy...very talented.

Had this for 9 months, sold and replaced with a 1200 Sport and Convert, and bought Tesla Stock with the rest..... MUCH more happier.....

Despite upgrading the luggage capacity and a few other upgrades, I never grew attached, or liked it much.

Hi K,                                                                           4-17-21

That's one purdy bike.  I have a '17 just like it.  Mine has Koso heated grips, back carrier, led driving lights, a pony (1.5) gal roto cast tank in the right pannier and is just barely broken in (5,200 mi).  It gets a lot of attention whenever I stop somewhere...

"What kind of a Gold Wing is that?",  "Wow, what did you do that Harley?",  "Yeah, I thought that was a Moto Guzzi.  Only the second one I've ever seen".  And my favorite..."Where was that made?  No, I mean, what planet?"

Be well, stay well,
DougG
P.S.  The pic I posted above is me on my '15 Touring.

Hi Dan,                                                                                                            4-17-21

Yup, I followed your (mis)adventures with your TPS...not good.   It made me aware of the potential issue on my bike.  I got the "dread red triangle" a few times but cycling the ignition took care of the problem.  I guess I was lucky.  Mona never left me on the side of the road.  The '17 never seems to act up.  Different TPS fly by wire.
Life do go on.

Good to hear from you Doug!
Thanks would definitely revisit a 2017-18 1400. It was the sweetest motor on any motorcycle I’ve ever owned. It’s most definitely a mile muncher!

Enzo Miller @ Cadre Cycle in Cincinnati had this last, lonely, motorcycle that was in serious need of a loving home.

A 2020 Eldorado..... it was like the sirens calling the sailing ships onto the rocks - and this one called to me.
Haven't actually picked it up just yet.

How could I resist ?

Yes, it is STILL calling to me.
