Well they are a member of the Dolphin family. Dolphins have a long established record of being friendly to humans as well as being more intelligent than us!   There is a saying somewhere that someone (American Indians ?) have, that  "Man is the tree of the Dolphin".   Interesting.

The quote is "Man is the DREAM of the Dolphin" . A creation story told by the Dogon Tribe in Africa .
Oh hell , how do I know this stuff ??

Substitute "useless" for arcane and you would have it  Like how can I remember that a team of riders on Indian Motocycles won the 1911  IOM Senior TT , finishing 123 , but I can't remember where my truck keys are ? :embarrassed:

Eclectic he may be, or more likely eccentric.

Which reminds me of the definition of eccentric... "he's eccentric - you know, looney, but with enough money that they don't lock him up!"

I doubt it Maurie , the last time that happened was May 20th of 1998 . Damn , May 20th , the date on which Codell Kansas was struck by a tornado , in 1916, 1917 , and again in 1918

I've read there are no recorded confirmed attacks on
Humans by Orcas - none.

Hans Kretschmer, September 9, 1972.  Might not really have been intentional, the whale let him go, but it was certainly an attack.

Lots of Seaworld attacks that were very intentional, including plenty of deaths, trainers and one guy who snuck in after closing and tried to swim with the whales.  These are of course not whales in nature, maybe it just takes longer for whaies in nature to learn about humans.

Where is 'local' to you?  Our local orca eat anything slower than they are, from herring to larger whales.

We call those guys "transients" here.  Locals eat salmon, in between tourist boat visits.  Between that, scarcity of food and top-of-food-chain accumulation of chemicals, they're probably on their way out.

The fact that the whale let him go does suggest an accident.

I did think about these incidents but lets face it, you take a highly intelligent creature that has by nature 7/10 of the Earth to roam freely in and imprison it for life?  Bad things are going to happen.  It's a special situation.  (and a sick one!)

That's not a correct comparison by any stretch sport.

And if you think about it and compare the two it's a
wonderfull example of the affect of our pathetic attitudes,
beliefs and way of doing things.

Understand and work WITH the Natural World and some
wonderful things can happen.

Try to dominate it and treat it like a Buffoon - and it will
kill us.

Maurie.

Like I said, those were real whales at Seaworld, dealing with real humans.  The populace may hear those "never ate a human" stories and suppose they're some kind of marine teddy bear that rips whales to shreds but goes all quivery in our presence.  The whales swimming around in the Pacific just don't know us as well.  If they start killing us, there might be a lot of missing surfers before we figure it out.
