2003 Stone broken/separated Front Crossover Pipe

The saga of the turd continues. Riding along and the bike sounds terrible and way less power. At least it got me home 10 miles wounded. The front cross pipe on the left exhaust separated at the weld, wierd. how is the best way to fix this? Thanks for any advice. Owning a Guzzi is an adventure, haha!  :shocked:

Possibly change the factory third muffin, as it’s called, over to the minstrel pipe?
I changed out the one on my 07 Calvin to the minstrel H pipe snd it sounded great.
May be off base by just a possibility??

I had a crossover weld break on my 2003 Titanium some years ago. I took exhaust pipe and half crossover piece to a local welder. Just be sure the welder is experienced with stainless.

In 90k miles I cracked the Stucci H pipe and the factory muffler underneath, plus I cracked both of the front pipe welds. There's just too much side-to-side shakin going on!

 I ended up with the GT RX H Pipe underneath and that's lasted 40k miles.  I doubt those are available any longer, however. 

On the front welds I had them fixed at the local shop.  Aiken, SC has a lot of good stainless pipe welders due to the Savannah River Site so no problems there.  At the suggestion of someone here I also removed the clamp connecting the two front pipe pieces.  That was about 35k miles ago and I haven't had a problem since.

Different bike, but I had the cross over pipe on a V7 Stone break around 40K. A local welding guy fixed it for nothing.  No problems since.

I pulled the entire exhaust system off. Getting the header pipes out was a pain. Any tips for reassembly? Getting the gaskets to stay in place and the rings to go on the studs of the head should be a fun time. Thanks for any advice.

To hold the header gaskets, a little Permatex #2 has always worked for me. Any gasket sealer should work.

Clean the pipe connections with some sandpaper, steel wool or the like to make sliding the pipes back together easier. Also might try expanding the pipe just a tad where it slips over the other.

Also where the pipes slide together, some say to use anti-seize or black silicone adhesive sealant to keep them from getting stuck.

After mine broke for the 2nd time I just had it cut off and the holes welded up. Never noticed a difference
