BaT Guzzi T5
« on: December 06, 2021, 09:07:20 PM »
I think that BaT shouldn’t have listed this.  The red paint may distract some bidders. I don’t know much about T5s and it is a great looking bike.  This example however seems to be shiny in all the wrong places. Someone please school me.

It's only got 2900mi on it, been sitting it's whole life. Look at pipes, stock EPA jetting. Still like new I believe. I worked on a few of them. They also had a shield you could get. Got crap switches & dual points. Small valve heads. Might bring $7K Look how much new bikes cost.

It looks like someone wants it, pretty strong bid with 7 days to go.

I suspect that BaT has become less discriminatory with their vehicle acceptance standards, especially since being purchased by the Hearst empire.

Having said that, this is a pretty scarce Guzzi, created during the notorious Tupperware timeline. I mean, when was the last time you saw one for sale?

First bid was $850 bucks and the second bid is $6,500. I guess this person really wants one.

Looks like it could be a nice $3,500 bike (Guzzi content on a Guzzi).  ...and it has been repainted in a not a LeMans red color.

IMHO that motor really distracts due to it not being cleaned up. Really sticks out and not in a good way.

I agree.  I’d rather see original paint and solid maintenance.  Given the corrosion on some of the parts and the blistering of the gauge faces, I think the bike saw some outside time. One of those bikes you need to lay eyes on before buying.

It is like a Mille GT or the SP2 seat. Lock that comes out of the hole for latch.

Sorry guys but yuck. The red repaint makes it look worse than it would have in the factory grey.  I would cafe that in a heartbeat.

That year uses the same step up seat  as the Mille but that is not the stock seat cover. And with so little miles why a new seat cover that doesn't fit.  The rear tail section is the same as the Mille. Tank is listed as 6.9 gallons when it uses the same Mille tank at 5.9 gallons and the decals on the tank is are missing. And I think that bike had crash bars didn't it.  I hate to say it but my red Mille is that dirty but then again I do not have have it listed on Bat.

A red mille gt is a handsome bike. It must be that fugly fairing that screws up the looks.

The bike had three available paint colours: Dark Smoky (sic) Quartz Metallic (a peppery-gray Italver colour with hints of brown), a lighter bluish-gray, and that red. So it is a genuine colour, but I do note they mention a repaint... The bike currently on BAT is a series II Federalized spec bike. The series III bike never came to North America, and to my knowledge only was an Italian market offering. Here's a photo of mine (a series III), minus the seat and the side panels...

Looking at the dirty engine, shocks have been replaced? Seriously doubt the odometer reading...unless it's been around once :undecided:
Still a nice bike, for a lower price, dual points for me would be a plus over the digiplex that came later.
For about $10 you could carry spares if you worried about their failure.

I did, 95 Spot. Never been stuck because of a bad set of points or condenser.
BTW exchange the digiplex of a spot with one from a Strada.

Never had a problem with the Digiplex box on two bikes. I have a spare Digi box sitting on the shelf for about 6-7 years collecting dust. Ducati also used those boxes and they can be fixed if one does fail.

I think that's a lot of $ for the condition of the bike, and probably a lot for that somewhat unloved ugly duckling model. That bike's been stored in moist conditions... witness the screws on the instrument faces being corroded, the alloy passenger grab bar being corroded, etc. The more I view it the more I appreciate the condition of my Series III... 😊.
