2014 has been entertaining to say the least ;-T. Here's a couple interesting statistics for you regarding the server/board:
So far, During 2014;
- We've had 64,382 hack attempts (96% coming from China)
- The longest the board went down was for only 18 minutes and that was me doing some maintenance
- The board has been down ZERO minutes due to server problems
- We've had 1,587 new members sign up
- Board, server and maintenance costs were achieved by August 2014, thanks to donations
- I have logged an all time low 233.45 hours doing maintenance (roughly 30 minutes a day average)
- We have only had to ban 3 people this year
- I still receive about 20 personal messages per day in my email, from people that forget to use the PM system
- We transfer roughly 3 terabytes of data per year (That's enough for 2,082 days of uninterrupted music. Yes, almost 6 years worth)
- "Show me your Guzzi" is the most viewed topic (http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=21281.0)
- There have been 118,455 new posts made
- We have not had a single scammer get in, thanks to the increased account approval process
- You have received ZERO viruses, malware, spyware, adware, junkware, etc from Wildguzzi.com
- I have turned down 6 offers to sell this domain to companies only looking to profit from my fellow Guzzi riders, many of which I know personally
- Yes, I am quite bored tonight ;D
- I have managed to steal 3 minutes of your time. I hope you were entertained at the very least ;-T
- There are 10,566 members in all
-
Thanks Luap !!!

What do you think they were trying to do?
I still receive about 20 personal messages per day in my email, from people that forget to use the PM system
If you prefer PMs, maybe you might consider removing your email icon. As someone who isn't directly involved with maintaining boards, I prefer emails. I can organize them much easier. If I send a PM, I usually get a reply by PM, and it's stuck on a board somewhere, so later if I want to refer back to it, I have to try to remember which board it's on. For this reason, I default to email to contact someone. On boards that let me have an email icon and no PM icon, I do that. I will certainly try to remember to send a PM and not an email next time I want to contact you.
Thank you very much for the time and effort you put into this board. I enjoy it and learn a lot from it, and I'll happily donate to it again in 2015.

Who knows what the hackers want...
The PM problem is people get a notification of it in their email. At that point, they should login and replay to it. Some people simple hit 'reply' on their email system instead. When they do that, it goes to the email system, and the email system forwards it to me.

Oh, I'm not used to a board's system working that way. Could there be a setting somewhere that changes that behavior? I guess you've probably already looked. I'll certainly be aware of this "feature" now.
The statistics are impressive. This is definitely the most active board I use. But then most of my interests are pretty esoteric. :D

What do you mean "What do the Chinese want?" They are curious about Red Suspenders. Thanks LUAP for the site and all you do.

This is a great site for us all. But come on fellas, knee pads shouldn't be needed. :D

I sincerely hope the "Board, server and maintenance costs were achieved by August 2014, thanks to donations" also includes covering costs for your time, which is very much valued by (I hope) all of us.

30min/day isn't bad for a site with as much traffic as this one has -- especially factoring in the cloak and dagger stuff from the orient. ;-T
One stat missing -- how many hits has the site had for 2014?
-
Thanks, Luap! I learn something every day on WG. Some of it is even good.. ;D

Thank you for all you do and keeping us all on the straight and narrow when we deviate. The climate here undoubtedly reflects the community at large but can easily be upset by a few very vocal and bored ego's without checks and balances.

Thanks Luap- Happy New Year- I have learned so much, I just wish I could remember it!

First..BRAVO to the adminstraters.
Its the language barrier..what does "wildguzzi".. mean in Mandarin??
You should hear what it is in Arabic.
I don't want to hear it. If I try to repeat it, I'll get a sore throat and phlegm all over my screen .....!

Pretty impressive numbers and interest in a company that sells a couple dozen bikes a year world wide. thanks for your efforts, I check this site before I check the news. I need some hope for the future before setting foot in the real world ;)
