ABS module support in GuzziDiag

Hi,

over the weekend Beard decided to start the implementation of ABS module support in GuzziDiag. My contribution was to hook up PADS, K-Spy and a DSO first to the 2V 1200 Norge, which uses the Bosch ABS module, and later the Aprilia Mana, which uses the Conti ABS module. Which we believe is the same one as used in the Guzzi range.

Not the tidiest measuring setup, but the one on the Norge looked worse due to the 2 Zeitronix and their wiring loom.




Beard needed to know the init sequence and the comm speed to begin the communication between host and ABS module. Which, as can be easily gleaned from below picture, is 10.4kBaud and 11bit package.




Yesterday afternoon we began with the Norge. Here's a picture of the view PADS give of the Bosch ABS. Only few selectable options and very limited information. And, it seems, no way to activate the module to support flushing.




This morning we continued with the Conti. Which provides more information and  activation of the module to support flushing. The picture shows the first successful connect between GuzziDiag and the ABS module.




More work to be done to implement these functions in GuzziDiag, but the most important hurdle of getting the connection(s) established was taken.

one of the selectable actions in PADS is to reset the "Coding". When executing this function a password is shown and, upon entering it, the successful operation is confirmed after several seconds.





We thought about what this "Coding" might entail. A reasonable guess could be that the Conti ABS modul can be tuned to a specific motorcycle model (wheel/tire size, weight, ...) to select the appropiate function of the ABS modul for this model. Following this thought PADS would propose a password specific to the selected brand/model.

I don't have, as mentioned earlier, access to a Guzzi with a Conti ABS, the screenshot is from the Mana.

Has any of you connected PADS to a Guzzi and taken note of the password? So that we can confirm or refute the assumption.

The coding is if you link the abs unit to a different type of bike. Like ABS unit is broken, you buy one form another bike, than it can be that it needs to be married to the ecu, that's done with the coding. And if i'm correct, most times it's all the same password.

If you use the 0.60 version it is there. In the settings list where you choose the bike, there is a separate option for the Conti abs. It's at the bottom of the list.  So don't search it as option under your bike menu.

   You guys continue to amaze. I've been running V4.7 without issue for years, and just downloaded the V6 and new reader/writer programs for the 5 & 3 ECUs. Will hook up and try soon, and use it to flush the ABS on the Stornello which is my only bike with ABS.

I do have one question, what is the purpose of MEEPROMTool ?

Hi Guys.
I posted a question about using the ABS function in GuzziDiag on the GD Tutorial Topic, now I find this one!

Basically, I was having issues connecting.
Found out from a guy on my FB Stelvio/V85/V100 Owners Group that I needed to use the 3-Wire Diagnostic Plug, not the usual 2-Wire one.

Got it to connect using the Bosch option (2009 Stelvio NTX).
Couldn't see any option/function to Operate the ABS Unit though.
In the 'Measurements' Options, you have just four fields, Front Speed, Rear Speed, Voltage, and Relay.

Only thing in the 'Actors' Options is 'ABS Warning Light', Engine Off.
No idea when you'd need that, as the Warning light is always on until you ride off.

So, query partly answered, but still no ability to activate the ABS Pump for Bleeding.

Am I doing something wrong, or missing something?

EDIT   Found four stored faults (none current). 5034, 5015, 5014, & 5024.
Can't find a list for those, only for the ECU/Dash Codes.

John, not all abs units support bleeding, I think the conti ones do.  If bleeding is not in the support manual of your bike, it isnt there.

Thanks Paul, I'd sort of deduced that from reading a bit more on various forums.
I'll have to keep doing it the Old-School, by triggering the ABS after 'normal' bleeding, then Bleed again.

There's probably a way to tap into the Wiring to activate the Unit, but it might get expensive doing it by Trial-and-Error!
