Norge grip heaters; now that I need them, they don't work
« on: November 10, 2014, 06:53:59 AM »
Went for a ride on the '09 Norge with the wife Saturday; pretty damn chilly for this time of year. The grip heaters have worked fine these past 4 years/44K miles until now. When I hit the switch on the bars, the heaters don't come on at all and the dash icon for the heaters doesn't come on either. I won't have time to investigate the cause for a few days; any suggestions that might speed up the fix?

Thanks,

Jon

When that occurred on my B11 it was the dash momentary switch.

I would start there.

Interesting to know. I have one in at the moment with exactly the same issue and was wondering where to start!  :D

If you think about it the control circuit is kinda simple, just that momentary switch to the dash. Then the dash itself controls the output.

So if you press the switch and the dash doesn't respond it's the switch or the circuit (wiring to the dash or the dash itself)...

Oh, it's probably only the dash. $900 or so will fix it.. ~;

Or just skip the dash integrated stuff, and wire in some aftermarket ones.

I never got around to fixing the Norge grip heaters that stopped working in November. Went out for the first ride of the year today and, to my pleasant surprise, they worked like a champ.  ;D

Had the same problem with my 2012 Norge.  Took switch apart at handlebar, sprayed with contact cleaner.  They have worked ever since. ;-T Something simple you could try first.

BB,

After they started working again, I figured the problem was something as simple as a bad connection/contact. When time permits, I'll try what you did and maybe the problem won't return.
