New To Me
« on: November 28, 2015, 01:28:42 PM »
Just picked up this '98 V11 EV from a gent in PA. I've been wanting one for some time and this one just happened to show up. I know nothing about the EV, but I've been reading a lot and have all the manuals for it. I'm sure I'll have questions as I go along, but in the meantime I hope to put a few miles on her. Almost 39K on the odometer and I have the trunk that isn't pictured with the other luggage. My old back has been yearning for a more upright seating position and this one seems right.

'98 EV was the bike of year for Cycle World.  Loads of evolutionary improvements.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉

Beautiful! I would change all fluids including brake fluid, unless you know for sure the PO did.
Like that color!

Can't go wrong with a 98EV.. except.. make sure the recall has been done on the throttle bodies, or fix the problem yourself. Solid good handling bike.. if you like the riding position.

Chuck,

To show you how inept I can be, how does one go about checking the recall?

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks to all for your comments. I just hope she turns out to run as well as she looks. I was amazed that the paint looked as good as it does after 17 years. Now to start on all the little chores.

Except for the decal on the side cover, it looks just like mine.

I've had mine up to 200Kp/h, or 125mph! Twice!

Rock solid!

Check the relays and replace if stock....

I think that's about the best California model you could have; and in remarkably good condition.  I've been loving my 1999 EV, which is pretty much the same, although mine's in red and cream.  The riding position, performance and handling are excellent.  To my surprise, I enjoy it best without either of the screens, although I'd use the big one for touring.

Tom, Glad to see you finally got the EV you were wanting. Now you need to get your buddy on a Guzzi.

On the 98, it got a 2nd throttle cable(a return closing) and the "red dot" models are the best!  They were the 1st couple containers that came in & were sold in 97. There also was a rear wheel recall on them, only on the early ones. Spokes would loosen up on nipples.  BBS had a sorting to do on the wheel building machine.  I changed 5 out of the ones at the dealer I worked with. $1200 new.

Dean,

The chances of that are pretty slim. I've had him close a couple of times, but he's a dyed in the wool HD guy. Next time you see him at a rally you can work on him for awhile!

I hope you like it as much as I like mine!  This is my first Guzzi, have had it for 2 years, most probably my last road bike. I've been riding since 1952, best road bike I ever owned.
