PICARD, I am missing something???
« on: January 07, 2022, 10:00:12 PM »
I watched about 5 episodes tonight,  not impressed.  I was hoping it would be much better.  We quit watching about halfway through the 6th episode and moved on.
Does it get better later on or does drag along like the first  episodes.

Brent Spinner isn't ageing well it looks like.
Patrick Steward is definitely showing his age now

Well, it is set sometime after TNG. Keep watching, Riker makes an appearance to save the Universe in the final episodes.

This made me laugh:

Want to feel old? Will Wheaton is now older than Patrick Stewart was when he starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

And yet Shatner is the one who actually went to space...

Shatner is what, 90?  Most people his age, if they're still breathing, are in a nursing home.

Yes, and he's not the only one that age who've done that.

Funny, my chances of going to space are far greater than participating in the IOM..

Indeed, he went because he didn’t have to pay. (Guzzi content)

Does anybody remember the weird motorcycle he was promoting a few years back?

I felt the same way. Not a fan of the new Star Trek, Picard, Discovery, etc.  Picard gets better, and was better the second watch. Looking forward to season 2 and have hopes the the "Strange New Worlds" (Pike captained enterprise) and Section 31 spin offs.

Discovery is pushing the woke a bit too hard IMO, and I don't like the strange camera movements or angels and the stuttering abrupt dialog, but Picard gets better and is worth the watch.

They have angels in Discovery?  Is this a new mixture of science fiction and theology?

I still need to watch it, at least the first 6 episodes. I have a friend who is in 3 of the first 6.

Not really, not like or as much as in Voyager or Deep Space 9. There are a few story lines related to the 'transcendence of the soul' though, but no real theology or religion as in the Vulcan, Klingon, or Bajoran as in others. Too much 'on board relationship and drama' for my liking. The OG had virtually none of that, and the others had one or two occasional, but they are coupled up in all manner of relationships and Discovery has too much drama the last 2 seasons.  Still some good story lines, but Discovery feels very forced and over the top.

Definitely interesting choice of phrase.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.
