So you are keeping the original footpeg positions then, yes?

Very nice work on the restoration. The shot of the steering head bearings brought back some memories... Of dropping a few bearings once or twice.

Yes, for right now. I may make up some sort of more rearward pegs in the future. Depends on how it feels once I start riding it.

Not much time to work this evening, but I did get the sprocket carrier reassembled. Slipped it into place to see how everything fits.

Great attention to the little details, as always!

What are you going to fit for rear shocks? I am going to shop for a pair for my 3 1/2 but would like to find something that looks stock.

Reusing the original Marzocchis. I've ordered rebuild kits, but they're coming from Italy, so could take a while. Neither damper is leaking and both have good damping for the full stroke, so I might just give them a paint job and leave it at that. The springs and retainers are off at the chrome plater now.

The UPS driver dropped of some more goodies for the Morini today.

I was out most of the day, but did manage to find a few minutes to assemble the clutch lever. The outside of the original CEV "snuffbox" switch cover cleaned up pretty well too.

Another evening with not much time to work. Did a few easy things. Removed the black paint from the brake lever of the NOS MZ Grimeca master cylinder, sanded and polished it.

Painted the outside of the tool bin finally.

Put the replated voltage regulator cover back on the v/r and applied the decal.

Yesterday and today's progress. Wet sanded and polished the right-side fork slider.

Cleaned all of the internals bits and pieces.

Assembled and slipped into place.

New headlight mounts in place at the same time.

Taillight assembly done.

Throttle assembled.

Sorting some hardware.

Plate that holds the fuseblock and regulator/rectifier in place.

Passenger pegs and muffler hangers.

My big hardware order included the bolts that attach the gauge cluster to the top triple.

Battery strap in place.

Nice work! :thumb: I remember reading about the 3 1/2 in a seventies issue of Cycle Guide. Never seen one in person, so it's really cool to be able to see the details in your pics.

While I was waiting on bike transporter to arrive to drop off a customer's V50, I thought I'd test fit the handlebars and controls.

Everything fits pretty well. Glad I bought the later style Grimeca master cylinder rather than finding an original one though. The outlet of this one is on the underside, pointing down. The original is straight out the end and can make hose routing "interesting".

Mixed weather day today, so instead of going riding, I decided to try and make significant progress. Achieved my goal of getting the front wheel on.

After lots of cleaning, the wheel looks pretty good, especially considering it's 43 year old paint. A chip here, a scratch there - no biggie - there will be more. Warmed it on the burner of my stove, so that I could install the new bearings.

Masked off the brake disk and painted the center with Dupli-Color Wheel Coating.

Bearings in, tire mounted, balancing the wheel.

Brake disk looks a lot better now.

Applied a coat of wax to the wheel, brake disk installed, speedometer drive cleaned and reassembled, wheel installed.

Test fitting the brake caliper.

Installing the new pistons and seals.

Caliper done, including brake pads.

On to the rear wheel...

Modified an old carriage bolt to work as a puller (along with a socket) to remove one bearing and the central spacer. The other bearing I drove out once the metal ring was removed.

New bearings and central spacer. The design of the central spacer makes it a bit harder than normal to remove the bearings.

But, the bearings are out and that's all that matters.

Spent an hour cleaning the wheel. Didn't clean up as nicely as the front, but it still looks good enough for this project.

What you can't see is some bubbling in one spot, numerous chips, a few scratches and still(!) some dirt in the "corners" even after all that scrubbing. Oh well, it won't stay clean long anyway.

Squeezed in another work session today. Installed the wheel bearings - heated the wheel on the stove, chilled the bearings in the freezer over night, after installing the central spacer into one of them. First bearing with spacer tapped into place with some Delrin tube and a small hammer. The tool I made to remove the bearings doubles as an installer as well. Set the second bearing into place, slip the bolt through, slip on a washer and nut, tighten. Seats the bearing into place perfectly.

Assembled the rear brakes and prepped the cush drive rubbers.

Gave the wheel a coat of wax, then installed the tire.

Test fitted the wheel to the bike. It'll need to come back off to install the fender.

Installed the sidestand.

Stood back to see what she looks like so far.  :azn:

Finally finished wet sanding the scratches out of the rear fender and a few more parts I ordered have arrived.

Started with 320 grit and finished with 2000.

Emgo copies of Pro-Grip 714 gel grips. Not nearly as squishy.

Rebuild kits for the rear shocks finally arrived from Italy.

Fender buffed out and mounted up.

Taillight mounted.

Wheel back on.

Need to get to work on the rear shocks, next.

Almost on it's own two wheels. Right now only the front and centerstand. Need to get the shocks done before it's a roller. Now that I have the rebuild kits, I can rebuild the dampers (or not - they're not leaking and have very good damping for the entire stroke). Springs and retainers should be returning from the chrome plater in the next few days.

Disassembled one rear shock today. I was figuring it would put up a fight, but for once, something went easy. The paint was literally washing off while I was cleaning it up.

While I was cleaning up my spare airbox before sending it to Lloyd/r1100purist, I decided to just do the one for the Strada as well.

Cleaned up pretty nicely. Missing one nut. Installed the new air filters while I was at it.

Cleaned the rubber elbows and stuck them in place temporarily.

My chrome finally returned from Frankford Plating in Philly. They did an excellent job, but one piece I sent didn't return (the "washer" that fits on top of the kickstart lever). Hopefully they just forgot to pack it and didn't lose it. If they lost it, I'll make one out of stainless steel.

The 90* Magnum BYO fitting arrived today, so this evening I assembled the front brake hose.

Only a few minutes to play yesterday morning, so I assembled the headlight bucket and test fitted it.

The signal stems had some weird thread on the larger end, so I rethreaded them in M10-1.5 to work with the CEV type signals.

Loving that original finish on the wheels. My first moped, when I lived in Italy in the 80's was a Malaguti Gabbiano and had that same finish, probably same factory made them. I spent a lot of time cleaning them, so pretty familiar with them up close. A finish you want to sink your teeth in, but maybe that's just me  :azn:
