traveller passing through Yukon
« on: July 28, 2019, 10:10:07 AM »
Met a chap at the Casa Loma in Whitehorse. He is from Colorado, was riding a Beemer. Had to ride home because the State Ferry is on strike.
Owns a MkII Lemans and a V65. He wasn't aware of this forum so I pointed him the way.
If you show up here, traveller (forgot your name ... a pint'll do that), please post some pic's. And welcome to the forest.
Yukonica.

No worries. Most everyone is on a tight schedule. Although, you did miss a good steak and (if you like dogs) eight little Bernese pups.
Hope the Dempster treated you right.
Always enjoy your videos.

I had astonishingly fabulous, unexpectedly nice weather. Perfect conditions except for the expected dust. Damn I liked the Yukon! What a territory!

That was me.  Name's Jerry. I'm in Banff today.  I'll Send pics of my '83 Le Mans III when I get home.

Nice to see you here. Was good meeting you.
Hope the ride out was a memorable one. Safe travels the rest of your way home.
Looking forward to the photos.

Sorry, I'm a little slow in getting caught up.  Here is the photo I promised.  They're in the back of the garage and I didn't have the time to pull them out to get better pictures.

I did have a good trip back.  I was planning on taking the Alaska Ferry but the employees went on strike so I had to ride from Whitehorse to Dawson Creek to Jasper/Banff national parks and Calgary then south into Montana.  Wonderful ride out of Toad River despite the rain and fog which made it all the more fun. More rain as I got close to Ft. St. John and the dirty water thrown by all the trucks on the highway finally brought that day's ride to a end.  I had perfect weather the rest of the trip, although a bit hot as I got into South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas.  36 days, 8,224 miles, four time zones, 11 states and 3 Canadian provinces.

I stayed an extra day in Whitehorse and checked out the town - what a nice place!  I was truly impressed.  I had fabulous lunch at the Burnt Toast.  I told my wife we should fly up there sometime soon and check it out as a place to retire to.

While I was in Banff, I found out that the restored Union Pacific "Big Boy" locomotive was going to be passing through Fremont, Nebraska (just west of Omaha) and that I just had time to get there so I detoured 1,500 miles to see it.  It was worth it.

I hope all is well with you,

Best regards,
Jerry

Over the years living in northern Canada, I always found that the harsh winters made spring summer and fall riding, however short, all the sweeter. Something to be looked forward to and relished with great gusto when it arrived
