A friend stopped by to give me a Christmas gift for having loaned him Max Oxley's book on two-strokes. In the back of his truck was a 1967 Yamaha Trailmaster, a seized engine and a box of miscellaneous parts... and two "new' old tires. The bike is all there, all original, and not in terrible shape compared to some I've seen on WG.He's off to Australia for a month which should give me enough time to learn what I am facing. Any guidance on approaching the project would be gratefully accepted.I think that my first step is a photo record and inventory. I don't like electrics so I might be recreating the wiring harness if it is fully complete. If not... anyone know where I can access a diagram or other details? Some place that might sell old Japanese format bolts?anything? (crickets)
A pick up truck full of money would be very helpful Good luck Connie . Dusty
I've finally had a chance to explore the links and addresses you all have sent. Thank you. While at work I found a copy (2 actually, I work in Libraries) of Chilton's motorcycles and atv from 1945 to 1985.I'll be checking that one out a few times. It is surprising the amount of information that has come my way in just 24 hours. Now I decide if I'll pursue the gift or politely offer it back. Looking at the parts catalogue from Charlie, dealing with a bonafide business for reliable parts may be challenging. But, in theory, it could be interesting.
If you think the definition of interesting is spending $4K to build a motorbike worth maybe $2K , then yes Dusty
Yup it may make a lovely mail box, there is an 1964 model in the Classic Canadian Bike exchange, for $2800, maybe a good idea to contact this fellow, may have what you need. DonG
Well Connie , it's been nice knowin' ya Dusty
anything? (crickets)
Sell it get this? Seriously he has been listing this since spring at $1800, slowly dropping his price. Seems worth it nowhttps://newhaven.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1967-yamaha-180cc/6406622783.html
Up here we have $5 a Gallon gas(bigger gallon) and it is the dead of winter, a trip like that would be akin to the Franklin Expedition! DonG
It appears to be completely different from my 1978 DT100, unfortunately. But there's a good 2-stroke board that leans toward Yamaha here: http://www.2strokeworld.com/forum/index.php There are some very knowledgeable guys there, and I bet some of them know a lot more about that Trailmaster than I do.I found several suppliers when I rebuilt the engine in my DT100. Boats.net sticks in my head as a good one. Your bike is a YL2C when you go to look for parts. Once you get the part number from their site, even if they can't supply it, you can search for that part number on the web and find other sources. You can probably also find a Yamaha shop manual if you snoop around a little. I got some hits when I did a search for "1967 yamaha yl2c manual" just now.
Just going to say this simply: Thank you. Boats.net is a gemMerry Christmas to you.
