Top case recommendation for this rack?
« on: June 07, 2021, 01:00:40 PM »
Looking for a decent, not too big top case that will mount to this rack. Learned a little about the GIVI Monolock and Monokey options, and seems more complicated than I was expecting. Maybe I need a Monolock, not sure, but I'd also like this potential case to have maybe a pad for the passenger, not to necessarily lounge back in but just a little something. Also, doesn't need to be giant, just maybe medium sized, but also strong. Open to different brands, and even potentially duffle-bag style and forgo the backrest idea.

What do you guys think may work on this rack type? This is to go on my G5. Thanks in Advance.

By the way, does anyone know who made this rack? The guy I bought it from in Italy said if was Moto Guzzi. I like how it appears to be a clean installation. I haven't put it on yet.

Looks like this mounted. I saved this photo as Gino from WG a few years ago, so a member here:

Ok, thank you. I've had my heart set on this one, but seems it's nowhere to be found in the US and one place in the UK (ghostbikes) I found it doesn't ship to the US.

Motostorm evidently has the Kappa equivalent (but doesn't have the cargo net): https://www.motostorm.it/en/accessories/luggage/kappa-k43nmal-cube-monolock-top-case-black.html

(I bought a set of Kappa sidecases from Motostorm and was pleased with their service)

How about "Going  Classic", with the top case. I have this original Wixom beauty, from my 73 Eldorado, I would be willing to sell. It comes with keys, and all the original mounts for a loopframe. Check out the vintage sticker , the cool running/brake lights, and the backrest pad on it! :thumb: :thumb:

Thank you Rick. Might be a little too much for me. I'm actually struggling with the idea of even putting a rack on my super-sleek G5  :azn:

Thank you for the additional suggestions, I will eventually pick something!

I mounted an Italian made Pistol case on my V7, of course it won't take a helmet but great for wet weather gear or groceries.

I hear ya, Groover! I have come  so close to mounting that trunk on a couple of my Guzzis painting it to match, but I just could not do it. Its a bit too much for me as well, I  guess I am not really a "trunk person" .

Top cases aren't for me either.  Doug has had the Givi knock off like Charlie's for years and loves it, stuck it on the V85 first thing.  I have used a tail pack though, and can vouch for them without reservation.  You'll find a slew of them on Ebay and Amazon, bet you'll see something that looks like it was made for the bike.
