Well here’s a story for ya. When I was working in a factory back in the 80s a guy had a newer Toyota pickup he decided to change oil in. He brings it into the factory and drains the oil into a storm sewer and drops the plug out of sight down there. So genius that he is he cuts the end off a broomstick and hammers it into the hole thinking he’ll get a new plug later. Welllll he keeps putting it off and the wood plug falls out on the expressway and his oil light comes on but he can’t be late for work again so keeps driving until the engine seizes. The warranty didn’t cover stupidity so new engine.
Ugh. Thanks for sharing Chuck. Lately I’ve been using my extractor to just suck the oil through the filler hole and not touch the plug.
You?
That’s a great idea! How much does those devices cost?

For the bikes I just stick the tube into the filler plug hole. If the engine is warm it sucks it all out in about 30 seconds or so. You can reverse the flow and pump the used oil into discard jugs. They sell them at most auto parts stores.
No ............. but did forget to replace the oil fill cap on my W650 after an oil change several years ago. When I cranked it, I thought "what is that unusual huffing/puffing sound?" I found out as soon as she started up, and blew at least a half pint of oil skyward, all over the inside of the open overhead garage door. What a hell of a mess! Glad I wasn't sitting on the bike.Bob
Uhhh.. nope. One time I was servicing the mower and drained the oil when hot. Thought, "Don't forget to put the drain plug back in," so did that. Changed the filter, put in fresh oil. What I didn't do is remember to remove the drain pan from under the mower, and a week later backed it out dumping a good part of the quart and a half on the ground.
