Scooter security: locks and chains
« on: February 20, 2016, 03:11:26 PM »
been riding my 150cc scooter everywhere.  but am concerned about leaving it unattended for very long, due to the ease of theft.  anybody have any recommendations on disc locks, alarms, chains, locks etc.  looking at kryptonite stuff. but unless the chain is long enough to lock to a pole,  not sure the value. unless i could run the chain thru the front and rear wheels thus preventing it from being rolled away.

I use the original Kryptonite U MC locks I bought decades ago for $40.   Run it thru the front or rear wheel and never wash my scoot.

Unfortunately, scooters appear to be easily and regularly stolen, especially in London. Apart from not riding one (or rather, not parking one), I'd look at the anti-theft threads over at the Modern Vespa forum.

Motorcycle and scooter theft is an issue around here also.  Not an every day thing, but certainly not unusual either.  Apartment complex thefts are common, and bikes left unattended while the owner works the same patternable shift every day also.

I bought a chain and lock at the hardware store that the store owner said was big enough to not be cut with bolt cutters.   Leave it at work all the time, locked to a fence post.   Lock up the bike when I get there, leave the lock and chain there when I leave.  So far it works fine.

Hey! Thanks to all of you. I plan on purchasing a small motorcycle soon and have wondered about this.
