Junkyard Sale V7 no keys, how to rekey ecu?

So I'm unlucky enough to live near a wrecked motorcycle clearing house.  Yesterday the youngest and I went to look at a couple of wrecked motorcycles amongst the rows and rows of Harleys that had been dropped, folded, spindled and mutilated.

The decent little V7 I'm thinking on bidding on does not come with keys.  Other parts have been abused but I can buff that out.

Years ago I reprogrammed keys for my Griso 1100 so I hazily recall the procedure and know without any key, the ECU needs to be sent out to a special shop to mate up with the new keys.

Does anyone know if this is true of the 2015 V7????

Don't know about fabricating a new key, but a new lock set is available, for not much more than a new ignition. And not all that much trouble to install. Don't let the lack of a key put you off; just factor it in to the cost. The V7 is unlike the GRiSO - the key is not linked to the ECU, it's just a key.

30 years ago I watched a guy hand file a key for a Japanese bike from a blank that fit at an auction. I bet a good locksmith still can. my 2015 looks like a plain old key blank.

My '09 V7 has plain metal keys, no chip no electronics.  So in theory you could clip off the whole lock assembly and solder on a new one.
Of course it's never as easy as that.

For what it's worth, the key blank is ilco ; X270 TMC1

If you can jumper the keyed switch out I'd leave it there to keep honest people honest and wire ignition to a out of the way toggle/rocker switch and be freed of keys. I'd also gut the seat latch lock and put some sort of knob on it that you can turn to remove the seat.

Not sure if this is possible with a Guzzi, but most manufacturers can cut a copy of the key from the VIN. Proof of ownership is all that is needed. Had to do this a few years ago with my FJR, lost the keys on a ride, diddnt bring a backup, went to yamaha dealer with the registration and vin, and the parts department pulled the key code and cut the key in an hour.

V7 doesnt have a chip/immobilizer like the CARC bikes. Should be easy, even if you need to buy a new tumbler/ignition lock with keys.

Bulldog, I'm just guessing, but I doubt Guzzi has the internal corporate structure to do that.  The Japanese, the Germans, sure.  The Italians, ... well not so much.

If you can get the tumblers out of the ignition lock, filing a blank key is to fit is not hard. Did plenty o' British ignitions back when I played with them.

A good locksmith can fit a key while it's still on the bike. Unfortunately, finding that "good" one is a crap shoot.

Usually a locksmith can cut a key if you take him the lock cylinder. Take him the easiest one to remove.
As for programming, locksmiths these days can program most keys. Maybe not a Guzzi though. Once the key is cut you may have to go to the dealer.

Depends: V7, v7II or v7III

First ones didn't have an immobilizer. So a new keylock will do to make it work and run.  I see 254$ at af racing part 887873, gives you all the locks

Only v7III i'm not sure, but don't think it has immobilzer too. Can't see an antenna for it in the drawing
